Belichick talks about Ed Reed (new)

Yeah… the guy who won the Thorpe Award over Ed. The same award that just so happens to be voted on by the “Oklahoma Sports Hall of Fame”… can’t take any of these people seriously.
I remember I was shocked that year when Ed didn’t win it. He was the best safety and overall DB in CFB that season. This explains why they screwed him.

I remember the media hype train really being overboard with trying to convince everybody Roy was the better prospect than Ed. What they were asked to do within their defenses was apples and oranges (much like the Ed vs Troy Polamalu argument).

Dillon Gabriel getting 1st Team All American over Cam this year sent me right back to 2001 with the sham voting surrounding the Thorpe Award. Straight f*ckery.
Same thing E$ECPN pulled with Cam at this year’s NFL draft.

Very cool thanks for sharing.. The only odd thing is that Bill passed on Ed reed in the draft. He chose TE Daniel Graham 3 picks before.
Daniel Graham was a Beast at Colorado,Killed Nebraska .Safeties we’re not viewed as Valuable as the are today.
Ed Reed Had a big Hand in putting The Safety Postion as A Key Position it is Now.
Defenses now with 4-2-5 Defenses are Safety driven. It use to be 4-3 or 3-4 but the game evolved . *
Reed was the Defensive QB just like he did in Miami the brains of the Operation.

If Guidry had Reed in 2024 , Reed would have covered a lot of the Short coming Miami Had. Reed was a Coach on the field.

On the topic of Ed Reed - for those of us not much in the know, is there a reason he’s no longer seemingly around the program at all?

I understand he was around during a challenging time in the program with Diaz, but I really miss seeing him on sidelines at games. Even as a legacy player/fan, is there any reason he’s not out there with Irvin pumping up the sidelines?

Is he involved much with the program at all lately? Even helping chat up recruits behind the scenes….that sort of thing?

His son hit high school and he decided that was his priority. He’s coaching on his son’s team, Chamblee HS in the Atlanta area. I believe former Raven Jamal Lewis’ son is on the team too.

Thank you, was hoping it wasn't internal drama or some rift. Hopefully we see him again more down the road.

You know who was even more egregious in passing on Ed? Ol’ Jerry Jones. Dude picked Roy Williams at #8 instead of the greatest safety ever. 19 year old RattlerCane was flummoxed by that decision. Jerry also passed on Dwight Freeney in that same draft.
I honestly dont know what changed with the Cowboys around this time. I dont know if the scouting department changed. More Stephen. I dont ******* know.
The Cowboys have been an utter disappointment in terms of ultimate or sustained success. But it's interesting bc ultimately after the draft in question, within a few years of this, the Dallas Cowboys got really ******* good at drafting. Like really ******* good.

They can't find their *** from a whole in the ground come December but they've been good at drafting
