Behind the U: TRob Episode

Openly said “took less money to come”

Good for us but **** still the same Miami financially
Weird that that’s your concern out of all the interesting parts of a 50 min interview...and made it a negative....

Meanwhile Kluber took less money to sign with the Yankees and Yankee fans think that’s a good thing....

We have certainly played bump n run . DJ Ivey is still chasing that UNC WR rn. You sure u didn’t go back n watch Miami of Ohio games by mistake?
I just watched it again and no he didn't even touch him until he tackled him. Maybe you're watching university of miami games

No you’re right. There’s been very little to none at all. I was being nice haha. Which kind of shocks me. We have corners who in my opinion or more suited to bump and run than the man they’ve been playing
Yeah especially a guy like ivey who's big and strong with average speed. It's a disservice to not let him play bump n run. Now we'll have 3 corners who are 6-0 plus 195 plus a coach who'll teach them to be physical. Even with stevenson I think couch is our best cb followed by stevenson, blades then ivey. Should be a better g improvement

My biggest takeaway: variety of ideas.

TRob mentioned that with Muschamp and staffs that have been together for sometime, ideas can get stale and everyone begins to think the same. He mentioned how Manny wanted fresh ideas in the room. This to me is the biggest benefit of bring in a TRob and Simpson; they've developed their defensive identity outside of the Manny bubble and can contribute new ideas to our defensive system. Sometimes its not about reinventing the wheel, but tweaking it

Exactly. Several of us have been saying this forever. If you’re not going to scrap it and bring in a proven DC with his own approach. You have to get rid of the Bartender Lackey types who can’t provide any real perspective.

When everyone in the room is thinking the same - there’s no real thinking going on at all.

I don't know what y'all expect really but if we're able to come up with something close to 75% of what big state programs with literally 10x the endowment and alumni support can, that's what we have to live with.

We’re paying Baker to do nothing.

Press isn't the flipping same🤣🤣🤣 are you serious right now? I said nothing about press man. I said bump n run. U can be in press man without being in bump n run lol
where I’m from (south fla) press is the same as cat coverage, bump n run..all sums up to you got the man in front of u..man to man . The way Ivey was aligned on that, 1 yard off the WR, that’s man to man coverage with a press technique. If I recall we were in press quarters to DJs side with his safety help with post/middle responsibility. In today’s game press quarters turns into man on man on the boundary (someone correct me if I’m wrong) if he was in a C3 he would’ve opened up those hip at the snap and bailed. If it was c2 he would’ve rerouted him toward the boundary and had soft eyes on the QB .

Plays at 11:18

8 got beat across his face and stacked quick. Now idk what Rumph teaches them in that technique 1 yard across from the WR. But I’d bet my last 1$ it’s to get a reroute, trail hip on hip in phase

It's manny's preference not rumphs but that'll change with trob. When manny was at texas a big reason things went south was they ran bump and run because Duane Akina runs press man. Manny likes to run a two read system.

It's basically the same without the jam on the receiver which makes no sense to do imo especially with bigger slower corners who can use their physicality to re route a wr. Both long passes he was in press man but doesn't jam him. It was this play that made me go back and try to watch our corners and I can't remember one play where we played bump n run technique. Hiring trob tells me he's ready to tweak his defense to be more aggressive in the back end. Especially after hearing trob talk about it. I hope it works out better than at texas with akina

It’s manny’s scheme but trust n believe the position coaches teach they technique out there within that scheme. Rump was teaching what he wanted to teach. Trob will teach what he wants to teach. That’s y those positions are expendable and scapegoated. I think on that play in particular Ivey was just beat off go so quick his only option was to turn n run.

the thing I think ppl forget is manny was a heavy man to man in your face guy in the backend when we had some guys. Even with a guy like Dee delaney who was better served playong off zone, they had him in man. Same with Adrian Colbert. I don’t think this staff trust these guys in those situations to cover like that. Now if that’s a baker game day play calling thing or if game week prep think IDK. But when you look at a play like that, blades at certain points and couch I can understand why. Imo a lot of that is confidence thing on our players. Hopefully TRob and the additio of Tyrique can remedy that

now if TROB comes in and evaluates these guys and we are still playing a lot of zone between the 20s. That should tell us what they think these guys strengths at CB are. If they can’t handle it he shouldn’t put them in those positions. If it were me, I’m putting them in man alllll spring and say hey either they float or get passed. But come fall

personally I think the CBS, Ivey and blades are not guys I want to trust to cover good WRs with no safety help or field to cover for that matter. And if you don’t have at least one guy like that’ it ties a DC options up. I think TROB impact will be felt immediately with our safety room because they have a higher ceiling and are ready to go. I think his impact on our CB play might take a cycle or two..but my measuring stick for that is all conference level play at least 1 of the 3 spots

Manny likes to run alot of two read pattern matching cover 3 but will also run cover 4 man with some cover 3 fire zone and cover 2 fire zone. I don't think it was up to rumph about bump and run or not. Everything I can find out about manny's defense bump and run hasn't been taught except for when Duane Akina and mack brown had him mix it in the year that the byu game happened. There's not alot of information on the scheme that I can find since he got to miami. There's a good amount of information on his scheme from the texas and miss st days.

If we still are going to run cover 3 two read next year the communication between switching wrs needs to be way better. But baker played it way too soft last year compared to Manny. One thing I expect is better discipline from the secondary and dline. Just hope the lbs improve

This is an important point. Anyone whos ever done any basic troubleshooting understands that its unwise to scrap everything and start fresh every time you have an issue. Everyone wanted Manny to fire Baker and Patke and Rumph and hire a whole new defensive staff. Technically speaking thats like throwing a whole new piece of equipment at the problem and hoping that will correct it. The majority of the time just tweaking or changing one setting can resolve the trouble. If that doesnt work then you roll back the change and call tier 2 to investigate on the backend before making any more changes because youre more likely to make the problem worse when you stack changes upon changes. Think of Manny hiring TRob as calling tier 2 and taking play calling back from Baker as rolling back the change he made when he handed him the job in 2019. We know Manny's defense works when he's got the right pieces and it's executed correctly. With Baker shifting from calling plays to focusing on the LBs I believe we'll see an improvement with the in game adjustments with that unit, which struggled in that area in 2020.

That's a fair point and something I hadn't considered. Props.

However, if Manny's D is gimmicky and fails against potent offenses, how is that going to change with TRob and Jess?
