Behind the U: TRob Episode

My biggest takeaway: variety of ideas.

TRob mentioned that with Muschamp and staffs that have been together for sometime, ideas can get stale and everyone begins to think the same. He mentioned how Manny wanted fresh ideas in the room. This to me is the biggest benefit of bring in a TRob and Simpson; they've developed their defensive identity outside of the Manny bubble and can contribute new ideas to our defensive system. Sometimes its not about reinventing the wheel, but tweaking it
Also said manny told him he needed more discipline. I noticed he said “Simpson and I”

Highly doubt we’re paying him $1m. He said he was gonna go to UF so that was the alternative offer.

Glad to have him but lucky the money BS didn’t bite us in the ***.

Again, the belief that we were "cheap" or "lucky" is presumptuous. If we KNEW he wanted to come, why overpay?

And it doesn't have to have been acrimonious. For example, and I am certainly having fun with it here:

T-Rob: Listen, UF offered me $600k. I want to be at Miami, just get as close as you can to that and we're good.

Manny: We only have $400k budgeted which is why I offered you that amount, but I want you and I got approved to get you to $550k. We are now X% over-budget which is an issue, and I can't go past that. We good?

T-Rob: Yeah dawg. Let's rock.

Manny: Oh, one last thing. In your very first interview I want you to make sure you tell the world you chose Miami for LESS MONEY than going to that glory hole of a cowtown 4-loss UF wanna-be program. That Miami is the place to be for recruits AND coaches.

T-Rob: Ruthless. Love it.

a few things that stood out for me from the interview.

1. he thinks the different perspectives from different coaches in the room (manny, NFL simpson, him) is great. he's open minded to different ideas, techniques, philosophies.
2. he went to roberto dario middle school, so he's half-Nica.
3. regarding blake, he said "i've sat in his chair before". having a few former DCs on staff is helpful. i like that. just like having a former head coach on offense also helps.
4. "bump press man" is his fundamental philosophy.
5. he said given last year's play sheet (he reviewed each f@cking play on D last year), he thinks we have plenty of guys in the area that can play that style. means we dont have them on roster?

i liked the interview.

Bump Press Man. ... Love it. But we better have LBs who can cover a slant.

Not sure I saw 70% of our snaps in man coverage. I would have guessed it was 30%.

I see what you are saying and there is absolutely validity to it. I will say however, FIU and LT were the absolute bottom for us and exposed that we had far more issues than I think most understood, and looking back now, I think Richt saw it and got out while the getting was good. Since then, you must admit it has been a very upward trajectory. This rebuild was NEVER going to be overnight, and it was going to come with some bumps and bruises. I feel like we are on the right path.
Careful. This violates mope law.

Man! Character-wise, T-Rob is a straight-up G. His personality alone will resonate with the younger generation. I'll give Manny his props, he's been able to make changes along the journey. I remember the days we couldn't even get our players to stay. I see the culture-changing slowly but surely. The defense can't get worse than last year. It just sucks that we're losing Blake to LSU. Next man up:sideeyes:

No. Just makes me want to question how many good coaches we’ve missed because we pay less than everyone else.

Luckily TRob wanted to coach at home and we weren’t stuck with DVD running the DB room
We don't pay less than everyone else but Miami is not going to out bid a high end SEC school if it is a salary war. Miami's biggest problem is it has hired HCs with little contacts. Randy Shannon had zippo. Dude never left Miami other than play a year or two for Dallas. Golden had few with a 5 year hitch at Temple. Diaz had few. I am not sure it is a money issue as much as stability. Why head to Coral Gables if you think the HC is on a hot seat or is going to fail? Coaching is hugely about who you know. I guarantee you T-Rob's contract is more than satisfactory for him. Plus, he is home. I have no doubt he gets a huge bump if this works out as it should. The guy is a real pro. Pray for Baker to LSU. Bring in a LB coach who can recruit. I can live with Patke running special teams. Just find a kid who can field a punt cleanly...lol.

The best thing I heard him say was "A DB that is getting constantly beaten, won't play!" "I'ma put you on the sidelines to come sit next to me"
Happy Antonio Banderas GIF

Ivey and T-Rob about to become besties.
Honestly this is probably the best shot Ivey has at being serviceable. What’s the point if the king arms and mass if he can’t grt his hands in people. I think he might be the surprise of the year. I didn’t see very much bump and run. I saw man but not much jamming going on at the line
