Behind the U: TRob Episode

Honestly this is probably the best shot Ivey has at being serviceable. What’s the point if the king arms and mass if he can’t grt his hands in people. I think he might be the surprise of the year. I didn’t see very much bump and run. I saw man but not much jamming going on at the line
Iveys been serviceable. He hasn’t been the a upper echelon ACC performer. That’s what we grade our guys on. Does he have it in him to reach that level..idk but TROB is his best Opp to see

I’m not going to lie; I was alright w/ this interview the moment he talked about the features of playing in a big city v. college town. I’ve said the same thing; that’s what we should be focused on. If I was a recruiter for Miami, everything he said I would highlighting.

Like Lashlee gave me some optimism last yr, TRob gives me something to look forward to. I had my ? b/c I didnt know much about him, but how he kept it 100, was solid to me. None of that over talking b.s

I think this guy is going to be around a while. Buying a home is one thing but buy your mom one as well is putting in roots to stay around for a bit.

I agree. If he can't improve and become good with this guy then not sure he has it in him. Good luck to the kid, we sure could use him stepping up

Yep worked out well but it just insinuates that Miami is still the same ole Miami. Cheap and poor. It’s gotten better but it’s still not good.

The concern is the number of times that this caused us to miss a coach. Is this the reason we can’t fire Rumph? Too cheap to pay a buyout? Is this why we can’t fire Baker and hire a new DC? Sounds like it
Jump to conclusions mat is out again here ..

My biggest takeaway: variety

There's been no bump n run I've seen. I even went back and looked at older games like 2017 notre dame game.

I'm a jury-is-still-out guy when it comes to Manny as a coach, but one of the best things he's got going for him has been his ability to attract guys like Lashlee and TRob. When you hear a guy like TRob talk football it's about impossible not to respect his approach and his knowledge of the college game and what it takes to win. To hear his level of confidence in Manny boosts my confidence in Manny, not gonna lie.

a few things that stood out for me from the interview.

1. he thinks the different perspectives from different coaches in the room (manny, NFL simpson, him) is great. he's open minded to different ideas, techniques, philosophies.
2. he went to roberto dario middle school, so he's half-Nica.
3. regarding blake, he said "i've sat in his chair before". having a few former DCs on staff is helpful. i like that. just like having a former head coach on offense also helps.
4. "bump press man" is his fundamental philosophy.
5. he said given last year's play sheet (he reviewed each f@cking play on D last year), he thinks we have plenty of guys in the area that can play that style. means we dont have them on roster?

i liked the interview.
Bruh, you know something.. Lol.. At the time Ruben Dario was filled with Nica, great people, some gang stuff here n there but they didnt mess with the brothers.. Legit Magnet program too, good times..

No you’re right. There’s been very little to none at all. I was being nice haha. Which kind of shocks me. We have corners who in my opinion or more suited to bump and run than the man they’ve been playing

We have certainly played bump n run . DJ Ivey is still chasing that UNC WR rn. You sure u didn’t go back n watch Miami of Ohio games by mistake?

Great interview, he’s very impressive and infectious. Maybe he and Jess can really add some much needed stuff to give us a good D again.

yes, i meant ruben dario, not robero dario. again, T Rob is half Nica accordingly. the story how he made it to ruben dario and coral park says a lot about his mom. his brothers had gone to prison growing up in carol city and she didnt want the same for him. moved him south and the rest is history.

Yea the magnet program was an opportunity for alot of dudes in that era to keep them out of trouble.. Glenn Cook went out there but they didnt cross paths, Alot of Bulls did there middle school out there, Taurean Charles was out there for a bit too.. If I rack my head Im sure I could pull a decent list, lol..

He's the best hire Diaz has made imo. I think promoting DVD was dumb, but with TRob at DB coach, I'm not too mad or anything. Keeping Baker probably offsets the good he did with this hire though. I think Patke is pretty useless too, but at least he doesn't seem like a legit major negative like Baker is...

Again, the belief that we were "cheap" or "lucky" is presumptuous. If we KNEW he wanted to come, why overpay?

And it doesn't have to have been acrimonious. For example, and I am certainly having fun with it here:

T-Rob: Listen, UF offered me $600k. I want to be at Miami, just get as close as you can to that and we're good.

Manny: We only have $400k budgeted which is why I offered you that amount, but I want you and I got approved to get you to $550k. We are now X% over-budget which is an issue, and I can't go past that. We good?

T-Rob: Yeah dawg. Let's rock.

Manny: Oh, one last thing. In your very first interview I want you to make sure you tell the world you chose Miami for LESS MONEY than going to that glory hole of a cowtown 4-loss UF wanna-be program. That Miami is the place to be for recruits AND coaches.

T-Rob: Ruthless. Love it.
It's not out of the realm of possibilities for a savvy recruiter to tell a little white lie that makes his competition look bad.

And I thought the initial word from our insiders was that UM "opened the checkbook" for the T-Rob hire? Hmmm...
