Beginning of the end?

Great thread @Memnon

Do you see a lot of high draft picks on UGA? It seems five years ago they were loaded and now we need to squint to find them.
QB play on both teams was average. Plug in Beck and UGA wins. Plug in Mendoza mateer to either team, they win.

Moore for Oregon was slinging. Drew for PSU just not a good enough passer but man he can be a good FB behind a monster line.

OSU is scary if they can get more out of the QB in time.

They've lost a lot to the draft & just this last offseason had nearly 30 players enter the Portal.

They'll still have players drafted, particularly from the OL & DL, just simply based on reputation & cache, but in terms of dominant playmakers, they haven't had any over the last 2 years.

Their Secondary is completely depleted; they have a bunch of LB's in their Secondary. They placed way too high a premium on measurables & have neglected coverage ability in their evals. Their Corners & Safeties are all big & slow.

Their DLine isn't that great either, especially in the Edge rush. They generate most of their pressure through numbers & sending Blitzers by overloading gaps.

Offensively, their two best playmakers are Chauncey Bowens & Dwight Phillips; the problem is Mike Bobo's ultra conservative offense doesn't really utilize them creating advantageous situations for them to impact the game.

The formula to beating them has been on film for 2 years now. It's just for whatever reason teams always play scared against them.

But their days of dominance are long gone...

That DL looked nothing like UGA. Heck front 7. Even in the back end, it’s nothing special. Warms the ****les..

I don’t believe two top teams have a bunch of jags. They matched up well and the QB play was average. Do they have dominant teams like 5 years ago, **** no. Heck, I’m not sure anyone does. Love it as it is fun to see wealth spread. This could cause major issues for TV deals and all the realignment. Miami is in a great position if they can keep this up.

Can’t wait for the Ravens to draft Cash Jones.

You said to target Chauncey Bowens in the offseason and you were right. He would've fit like a glove here. Unfortunately he had a big spring game and stayed put.

Agree to all that. Portal has killed the super rosters /depth. Good for the game. Parity has never been higher.

As soon as NIL became legal, UGA & Bama free-fall back to Earth.

NIL = Parity.

Hence, why CFB is so wide open & there are no more dominant juggernauts.

Every program with money is a B+ team; Now its all about all the other factors, like gameplanning, play-calling & situational football that's mattering more.

One team can no longer hoard all the best players. Which is why teams on paper that are supposed to be smoking teams by 40, are having late 4th quarter dogfights with mid-tier conference programs.

Why don’t people see this?

You literally have people starting threads bemoaning NIL and the state of college football. Yet, were it not for the neutering of the NCAA, and this present NIL era, ie CFB’s current state (including portaling), we would literally have no chance.

At least now teams like Miami have a chance to get in the hunt and sit at the big boy table. It would be back to the future of the last miserable 20 years if these changes had not occurred.

To put it simply, it helps Miami.

I’ll throw in talent evaluation to scheme. Miami has done dang well this year.

Really, I’ve watched Allor throw 4 of the worst pics in his last 3 games. All on 1st and 2nd down. Big10 championship, semi-final(2 I think) and tonight. Overrated. My $0.02.

Go Canes!
