Before Lashlee

I mean is this surprising? We all know Miami went cheap hiring HC and Assistants ever since Paul Dee offered Butch that big deal in 2000.

Coker was promoted from UM OC
Shannon was promoted from UM DC
Golden came from Temple
Richt was at the end of career

As fas as assistant coaches I can only remember of a few instances where Miami spent money to get someone.

Kul was given a big raise
Searles had a couple other offers (VT maybe)
Patrick Nix was given a raise
Coley might have gotten more $ but he came so he could call plays

What Big Deal did Dee offer Butch, if you don't mind me asking??..

Didnt he offer him $2million a season?

Update - Guess it was 1.7 not 2
Negotiations plodded forward through the Sugar Bowl. On Jan. 5
both parties agreed to a base compensation of $8.5 million over
five years, plus some incentive bonuses--all of which would have
put Davis among the three highest-paid college football coaches
in the nation.

And wanted him to pay 90% of his buyout....and no Pay raises for his assistants....and Cleveland offered him 4 million a yr for 5yrs, and a boatload of incentives.

Manny should count. He went from our DC to temple as HC. Us dumbly outbidding them is irrelevant

Manny and lashlee were the two best *coordinator* hires in the last decade plus, most others have been garbage
And one of those was garbage too

The closer we look - the worser it gets.

Not sure why Manny wouldn't count. He was technically hired as HBC for Temple before we brought him back.

Well, to be honest - we're still trying to get the taste of *** out of our mouths, and the odor of siht out of our nostrils.

So when Manny comes up - we shutter our memories.

It makes me so mad that we got so cheap and lost out a potential dynasty situation.
Imagine in 1998-2000 if Butch had an administration that gave af....and a Wells Fargo truck in his back pocket. See, Mario (aside from FIU) has ALWAYS had that $$$$ advantage. From Bama, to Oregon, to UM. Alot easier to recruit with that type of financial backing, not to mention administration's that are 100% behind you. What Mario DID learn from Butch was evaluations. But what's disturbing is a lackadaisical approach to staff hiring, something you'd think he'd have also learned from Butch.

Yeah read the rest of the article after I posted. Crazy that Dee would think any agent would his client agree to those terms

I don't discuss the situation with Butch anymore. I did till nauseum for yrs. But I do know, that they thought a deal would be done at the 11th hour...and keep in mind, the Browns at the same time were tapping their feet. 1.7 Million....vs 4.0+ Million, with crazy incentives (which he recieved for getting the Browns to the playoffs) Howard ran for more $$$$...he gets a pass....JJ ran for more $$$ he gets a pass....Butch (with an administration that loathed him) ran for more $$$$ and not only doesn't get a pass, but is vilified.

@Brooklyndee is the only person on this site who not only knows what went down, but will attest everything I've said is facts. Butch left the program alot better than the pile of sh*t they handed him. JJ as well to a lesser extent. Howard left JJ more to work with, than what Erickson left Butch. JJ wasn't saddled with horrific sanctions, and a terrible public perception. And oddly enough, it was Butch (as JJs #1 recruiter from 84-88) who closed on the Greats recruiting wise during that timeframe.
