Jedd Fisch comes to mind, though it wasn’t Miami to Arizona. Had a lot of stops in-between—NCAA and NFL—before becoming the head guy in Tucson a few years back (almost a decade after doing time on Al Golden’s staff.)

Thank you for sharing. He coached at Miami in 2010 and 2011 but left to Jax Jaguars to be their OC. We went a full decade without any Assistant getting a Head job explains a lot of why we sucked.

Miami assistants who became HC eventually, there’s Whipple, Larry Scott, Chud, Pagano, Curtis Johnson, the list goes on.

Pretty sure the last assistant to become head coach right after Miami is Schiano who went to Rutgers after the 2000 season.

I believe you’re right on Schiano… sad. In regards to being an assistant here and going somewhere else to be a HC was the one last before him Sonny Lubick?

We merely need to note we won a bowl game in 2006 and 2016 to acknowledge we have been bad. Wondering how many assistants left to become HC is irrelevant.
