Beamer's last stand

Beamer has done more with 3 stars than Golden has with 4 and 5 stars. A lot of us use to give Golden the benefit of the doubt But that is long gone. We're hard on Golden because he sucks and has not shown any signs of improvements.

I'm not knocking what Beamer "did", I'm knocking what beamer is "doing".

Beamer is an "all-time" great! He built that program, and deserves credit for doing so. But he's not the guy to lead that program anymore. And I'm guessing this season will further validate that opinion.

Just like us having to go with a true freshman last year was an indictment of Al Golden.

I seriously don't understand how some of yall are so hard on Golden, but have tons of excuses for every other coach out there ...

WHAT?!..."having to go with a true freshman QB"?

"Having"?

UCLA just blew UVA out WITH a TRUE FRESHMAN QB, what was Folden's excuse with Kaaya last year again?

And you're right, it's Folden's job to make sure we have "decent QB depth"...BUT, who's job was it when we lost Dwayne Lawson to YOU GUESSED IT!...FRANK EFFIN' BEAMER?!

You realize that UCLA was playing UVA right? UVA is arguably the worst team in the ACC Coastal.

You're right. Fire him for losing to the defending NC and current consensus #1 team after leading at the half and losing his starting QB.

No, fire him for being mediocre. By the way, don't think that their fan base is at all pleased with him. They saw what happened with Paterno, and don't want the same.

Fire him for whatever reason you want. I don't give a **** about Flubberneck.

Just remember that he made that program. Don't be so sure that a middling program in the middle of nowhere will ever be much more than what they are now. Lots of bigger better programs have made that small area of Virginia that produces a few top players every year a priority.

And while guys are giving VT credit for "keeping it close until Brewer got injured", nobody is adding that Ohio State was without about 4 elite level starters ... Including, arguably, the best DLineman in the country and an all-American return specialist.
They were ahead at half. That's better than keeping it close. And a 3 deep team like OSU can afford to lose a DL and a WR more than a team like VT can lose its starting QB and unquestioned leader. Come on, man. Make better arguments.

They were ahead at the half, and got beat by **** near 20 ...

If losing your starting QB, (and this next part is really important) who really isn't that good to begin with, is a 25 point swing ... Your QB depth chart is garbage. I'm not sure that kid they put in to replace Brewer would be a starter at Bethune Cookman! lol

And that's the point. Beamer is responsible for his roster. Any holes that exist are on him.

Now, as a Miami fan ... I don't really care. And would probably prefer he stay at VT.

But objectively, IMO, it's pretty clear his time is over at VT.

how does VT have a back up QB --- #2 off the bench-- who literally cannot throw a football? I dont understand that at all

a QB who has just a run package? sure -- but how is that guy #2 off the bench

It'll be interesting to see what they do in the post Beamer era. He put them on the map and we'll see what kind of money they put towards the next guy. The fact that he's kept them ahead of UVA is shocking.

I'm curious to see what hàppens with Bud Foster. I'm sure he has been staying put because he wants to succeed Beamer. Interesting to see if he gets the job or where he ends up if he doesn't.

Agreed. I believe Foster THINKS he's the heir apparent but have some serious doubts that he's head coach material. Hopefully it turns into a mess for that whole program.

Who's job is it to make sure the college program has decent QB depth?

Brewer isn't awesome, by any stretch. And the kid is a transfer. That's on Beamer.

The fact that VT has nothing at QB is a direct reflection on the HC.

Unlike all the other NCAA teams that have Don Strock as the backup QB, VT's backup QB is awful. You're right though. Every backup QB should be ready and equipped to beat a team like OSU.

Butch Davis must have been a **** recruiter too because when Dorsey was forced into action as a freshman against an excellent VT team that we were playing equally while Kenny Kelly was in the game Dorsey was awful and we got blown out.

If Foster still thinks he's the heir apparent after Shane Beamer coached the bowl game when Flub was sick then Foster must be as drunk as everyone claims he is.

He might be. That's why he thought trying to take his players "cost of attendance" cash would play well in the media. That said, I don't fault anyone living in Blacksburg year round for being a full blown alcoholic.

Keep throwing those "straw men" out there ... Maybe 1 will stick.

Every backup QB should be ready and equipped to beat a team like OSU.

Haven't seen 1 person take that position. I didn't expect Brewer to beat OSU, so I certainly wouldn't have expected his back-up to do it.

And when in doubt, toss in a "Butch Davis" reference ... With the added bonus of you equating the current VT back-up, who you've already acknowledged is not very good, to Ken Dorsey.

Butch Davis must have been a **** recruiter too because when Dorsey was forced into action as a freshman against an excellent VT team that we were playing equally while Kenny Kelly was in the game Dorsey was awful and we got blown out.

LOL
