Baumann and the Blocked Punt (Indiana Scouting)

if you are watching every single game see if he does it in other games too in punt situations. A single screen shot from the first game of the season of a player missing an assignment doesn't indicate a problem. You can probably do this for any player.

Now, if he is doing it multiple games then I would certainly put the blame on the coaches for keeping him out there.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. The snap went to the punter's right. He didn't just roll to the right for ***** and giggles. He had to field the snap high and to his right, and his natural momentum just took him that way.

And I say that not as a criticism of your post, but to point out that the blockers CANNOT ASSUME ANYTHING. They can't see where the punter caught the snap, or if he bobbled it, or if there is some other issue which causes him to punt in a direction that is not perpendicular to the line of scrimmage.

The bottom line is that we have an Aussie punter who tends to go to his right when he has time. We had a snap that went high and to the right. There was almost no rush. With those factors, you CAN'T make the assumption that you can just tippy-tap a rusher and nothing bad will come of it.

Bauman's non-block is still one of the worst and laziest plays I've seen in college football over the past 40 years.

I'll take those odds 110% of the time. Low-scoring game with Miami having second half momentum. But now you want me to play a ******* "but Indiana would have got the ball with good field position" game?

Perhaps. You aren’t wrong in terms of the possibility.

But we deal in facts and not hypotheticals when it comes to this play. Anyone can also easily say that Bain, Mesidor, etc gets through and forces a fumble that’s returned for a TD.

This is football. Anything can happen.

Say it louder for the people in the back. Yes Bauman sucks and it was a terrible play but even if it doesn't get blocked there's no guarantee Miami stops them.

they would have taken more time off the clock obviously, but we could have only let up 3 vs an automatic 7. maybe we get a turnover on D and get the ball back and steal a possession that way.

****, even if you give them good field position, they could have only scored 3 with how well our D played in the second half.

3 points make its 24-21 at the game and only needing a field goal to tie? maybe then beck doesnt throw that dumbass ball

Second half Indiana drives BEFORE the blocked punt:

---6 plays, 6 yards, punt
---4 plays, 22 yards, punt
---3 plays, 2 yards, punt

This bull**** myth about "Indiana would have marched right down the field if the punt was not blocked" is not supported by facts.
 
Hold up. Wasn't Baumann only in there on punt pro because Lofton was out? I am pretty sure Lofton manned the right side of that punt formation all year.
 
That play was a disgusting lack of effort/concentration in the biggest game of his life. That said, we overcame that screwup. It is not the reason we lost the game.
Why he was out there at all of punt is a legit question.
 
If the Indiana punt to begin that drive is slightly worse, Malachi hits Bryce Fitzgerald on the trick play and Bryce scores easily. 14-10 Miami. Hard Rock collapses on itself.

Game of inches.
