Barry Jackson's Latest: Mark, Blades & Soldinger

That too. But dude should not even mentioned saban. The only thing him and soldinger have in common is they are old.

agreed. my previous post stated that saban is 1000000x the coach any of those guys are and it isnt even close

For those insinuating what coach soldinger said as being "old & cranky/bitter" you all are part of the problem. Coach soldinger is one of the main coaches not just at UM, but in Miami period who helped to make Miami football what it is, down South and at UM period. He's a big part of why most of you root for UM now, to many turncoat type of UM fans these days, got the hoe mentality, just jump on the next new thing that hasnt proven nothing yet. Our runningbacks dont block like they did under coach soldinger, its not a fluke how many runningbacks went to the nfl under him, frank gore still getting carries. I said it when manny first started putting the staff together, and ill say it again, "no UM team ever won a national championship without Miami coaches" i made that statement when it was reported that a decision hadnt been made on coach rumph yet, and while many delusional clowns were saying "coach diaz should get a guy at that position who recruits better" it just showed the mental make up of alot of these new UM fans, who get more excited over one so called 4 star recruit over other ones. Coach rumph been bringing in so called "4 star recruits" but somehow the board went crazy when Christian williams commited and signed his L.O.I. only to be rated as another "4 star"!

people were ****ed at rumph bc he missed on Henderson, Campbell, and Surtain. those are big misses in your own backyard, but overall, i think hes been fine as a recruiter esp compared to the DL recruiting (both coaches).

That's the problem right their, its not coach rumph fault those guys bounced out, the fact that people got mad is comical and sad, i said it back than, i could careless who didnt sign, i care about who did, and when the reality is we had the #1 pass defense in the nation, that's the only ranking and the realest ranking anybody with common sense would want, but we got to many clowns the only and main ranking they want is some so called "#1 class recruiting ranking" by these nerd recruiting sites, which means they dont live in actual reality, that's a **** of a thing!

i agree. i do think we NEED to close on those elite guys tho in the future regardless of who else is brought in. recruiting is sales and part of rumph, diaz, banda, etc job description is to sell the program to the best of the best (regardless of whether you believe in the ranking system or not).

Soldinger wasn't talking about Kehoe, he was talking about himself. And he was right.

The magic element is that old, wise sage who has been through everything with the program.

We need a 'Canes Gandalf, if you will.

I wouldn't mind that at all, but I can see Manny's POV as well. Open door policy for all ex-Canes STRONGLY encouraged, and hiring who he feels is best for what he brings.

The fear is always that he is hiring strictly out of a comfort zone, but to be honest, I don't remember a staff composed on what seems like (hate to say it) small timers. Great resumes I guess with common ties to minor institutions in the past. (yes, I include F$U in that..)

Let's call it what it is...how much excitement does Enos bring to the table for much of our fan base if he doesn't coach at Alabama for one freakin year, despite his resume? Nahhh, mostly we are just all dying for ANYTHING that doesn't completely waste our skill talent on that side of the ball.

Many of these dudes are chomping at the bit to coach here, so I'm willing to roll with something new....but sure, I wouldn't mind having a coach that connects the past as well.

he can be brought in as a motivational speaker, not as a coach. no thanks. you won't recreate magic by hiring a dude who hasn't coached in college in FOREVER.

So the question is, how does one define elite, based off of highschool film or actual college play, cause our UM secondary has actually been playing elite, and when you helped to coach the #1 pass defense in the nation, coach rumph and coach banda has done their job. So by doing that, coach rumph and coach banda has done the best sells job any coach can do, but that's just it, coach rumph and coach banda selling, meanwhile they going up against the security & exchange commission conference, they not sellers they are known buyer's! So to say you "do think we NEED to close on those elite guys" if you mean "elite" by best players that fit the UM system, thus far they have done that, if you mean "elite" based off of nerd recruiting sites, you too are caught up in the wrong thing!

That's about all I wanted Kehoe for before his last go around.

What he did at UM was amazing, but times have changed quite a bit. ****, Solly is a legend, but he understands that the game moves on....

we don't need that. bama for years thought needed a bama guy to win it cost them. finally with saban hire got away from that look whats happening now. we had that Miami legend guy on staff with golden didn't work. had it with Shannon nada, fact is u don't need it. diaz probably knows as much about what this program was and is as they do, only he is much more modern style of doing things.

The guy who didn't play college football and didn't go to Miami knows as much about how the program was built as a guy who did both?

OK, that makes sense.

Perhaps.

Kehoe is still trash.

Hey I actually agree with you. Rumph gets a lot of undeserved shlt on this board. Dudes actually developed his players, and ill take that over a recruiter all day long.

One thing about soldy tho... the man had a helluva lotta talent to work with in his backfields, and those backs had hella talented lines in front of them. None of our recent coaches has been blessed with that kind of stable.

Rumph actually has a room full of blue chippers, so let’s not pretend he’s turned a bunch of schlubs into ballers.

But he did recruit those blue chippers, no?
Oh yea.. don’t get me wrong, I have no problem rumph. I’m actually happy with his work here.

The poster I was responding to, @Calvin , fervently believes that a player’s star rating in no way correlates with his talent or college production. I was just pointing out that while rumph did miss on some local recruits, he still has a pretty stacked position room. It’s not like he’s getting production from a bunch of 1 star nobodies. He’s got a bunch of 4 stars.

I'm really struggling to understand 1) why people think this, and 2) where in god's name you get off insulting this man, as a fan. He's done more for the program than any of you ever will.

His last several sets of offensive lines were absolute trash.

His technique teaching was garbage and he compensated by being a loud mouth.
