Barry Jackson's Latest: Mark, Blades & Soldinger

Old heads need to realize the players are different now. Physically, mentally... this is the social media era. It’s not going away and kids love it.. they will say anything for likes and retweet’s... kids now just don’t play and think football 24 hrs a day... it’s a new era of football and Manny understands that... old heads struggle adjusting to this new era of players... not saying it’s bad or good but it’s reality.... your environment has to be geared to this new aged student athlete. Even Saban has adjusted.., look at Clemson, Ohio State, etc..
So at what age does someone become an old head?

Weren’t special teams duties taken away from Soldinger and given to Mark Stoops because he was ******* up?

Am I misremembering that?

Does Rumph not count as a link to the past?

My only issue was he seemed somewhat hypocritical.... saying how kids are too entitled, don't want to work, think they are just gifted a spot, then turns around and says Manny should have hired someone like Kehoe, or maybe himself, or some other old time cane. To my knowledge, none of those guys are coaching still, so while coaches can be entitled, players cannot? Also reminded me of this article:

http://caneswatch.blog.palmbeachpos...r-talks-hurricanes-issues-supports-al-golden/

Basically says the same thing, kids are b!tching and moaning, but he supports Al Golden. The parallels between the two articles are similar.

It's not hypocrisy when you've been there and been successful before vs. someone who hasn't. But I hear what you're saying.

Well said.

There's a weird schism between the old guard and the new. We had five rings in 18 years followed by zero rings in 17 years. We're at a tipping point in the most real way possible. I get why a guy like Soldy would feel vindictive. But that also, to me, seems to be a product of not having him around.

He's an old man who has a lot to say and wants to be heard. It would behoove us to listen to some of it.

The coaches from JJ and Denis are fairly old now. We do have younger Canes who could bring the old Miami into this new Miami thing our FSU coach has dreamed up. Ooops, I mentioned Manny being a Nole again. I guess if he would stop hiring noles maybe I could forget it. I hope the new Miami doesn’t turn out to be the old FSU.

Solly has the entitlement part right, these guys need to have a do or die attitude. The culture under which Solly coached at the U is the key, and I guess what he says about bringing old timers in to coach/mentor is what we need to light a fire under the players asses. But results comes before swag and I hope Diaz can create that.

Nick Saban seems to be doing just fine and he's a bit over 30

nick saban is 100000x the coach any of those old dudes are and it really isnt up for debate. kids flock to saban bc he puts them in the league and he wins. thats what is most important. he also hires known elite recruiters to go out and bring in those kids (they relate well -- look at locksley at maryland).

For those insinuating what coach soldinger said as being "old & cranky/bitter" you all are part of the problem. Coach soldinger is one of the main coaches not just at UM, but in Miami period who helped to make Miami football what it is, down South and at UM period. He's a big part of why most of you root for UM now, to many turncoat type of UM fans these days, got the hoe mentality, just jump on the next new thing that hasnt proven nothing yet. Our runningbacks dont block like they did under coach soldinger, its not a fluke how many runningbacks went to the nfl under him, frank gore still getting carries. I said it when manny first started putting the staff together, and ill say it again, "no UM team ever won a national championship without Miami coaches" i made that statement when it was reported that a decision hadnt been made on coach rumph yet, and while many delusional clowns were saying "coach diaz should get a guy at that position who recruits better" it just showed the mental make up of alot of these new UM fans, who get more excited over one so called 4 star recruit over other ones. Coach rumph been bringing in so called "4 star recruits" but somehow the board went crazy when Christian williams commited and signed his L.O.I. only to be rated as another "4 star"!
