Say what you want about Barry and Manny and they are two fat worms who have never played a sport in their life but to their credit, they are sick of the BS on the field product just like us. They've been hammering Mario and staff with legit on the field product questions.

Genuinely shocked the Herald or any other pub covers Miami football at this point. I imagine it generates 1/100th of the clicks Lourdes volleyball articles get

im pretty sure the board hates every miami reporter lol. eventually they'll realize covering the canes is a low level job for sports journalism in this market. the better writers are all gone to cover the pros or other larger markets and the **** ones remain covering the canes

Hahaha. For real? That's beyond bizarre if so. I think Lashlee is making around $4 mil/yr and SMU is a fairly attractive starting spot for a first time head coach.

I don't think that every reporter is hated. There are some good, some bad. Even one of the best (at the time) turned on his own alma mater and published VERY old personal anecdotes that players mistakenly entrusted him with (LeBatard).

But you are correct, some of the hackiest have remained on the Hurricane beat long after their objectivity died and they started meeting their weekly quota of UM articles with hit pieces and mean-spirited analysis.

from his posts on twitter, its more comparing the offenses not that we should've kept him. Barry also covers like 100 teams in this market bc the herald is dying and no one else is left. the only writers worth a **** in the market cover the fins or heat (and ESPN took all the good local writers for the heat).

lebby is still good but barely writes now. hes also gone from the beat business once he made a name for himself from what you said. either way, im guilty in that I like lebatard and his show (past be damned). its entertainment and thats all sports is and should be - entertainment.

my friend went to grad school w Hydes son and went to his house for some party. dude is a hack too but earns a good living considering the profession. cote is there for random stupid articles but his wife is a higher level partner at a ID firm in FL (not amazing but a good living for defending insurance companies all day).

the only ones that really hit it big down here are lebatard, izzy, sedano (more media than writing), mike Wallace, Joe schad (at the time was one of the best writers in CFB for ESPN then left to cover the fins for the PB Post).

fwiw, I dont even think the remaining canes writers (there are younger new grads in there that show potential but this board doesn't bother to learn them) are all mean lol. a lot of the old guys write a ton of nothing. tbh, its hard to objectively write good about a 5-7 team that looked like ******* all year. there wasn't a single redeeming quality from this team and staff this year. also, the team was tuned out locally. no one gave a **** once MTSU happened. it was a boring product and combine it w the fins being awesome this year and the heat season started - canes went back to page 8

recruiting - diff story. Mario crushes it and gets a lot of good pub there

I would add that S.L. Price did fairly well, I believe he went on to write for SI.

I'd also mention my classmate Bruce Feldman, though I don't think he worked in SoFla professionally.

Todd Wright was another classmate of mine. He actually transferred and finished his undergrad at USF, but he worked on the Miami Hurricane student newspaper with me (and, yes, LeBatard). For a while, he had a late-night show on ESPN called Todd Wright Up All Night.

Michelle Kauffman would likely have gone on to bigger/better outlets had she not married Dave Barry, they are both pretty happy staying in SoFla.

And we can't forget Roy Firestone, though he also didn't work in SoFla very much (still a UM alum, though).

I meant the ones who worked here locally not grads fwiw. we have some gator grads on the beat now due to their journalism school being good and miami the largest FL sports market.

Feldman was and is good.

Kauffman teaches at UM btw. people hate on Susan and I dont think she's good by any means but as an aside, she's been a pretty great mom to her kids. she cares more about the school than most of the writers down here (I believe she's a grad but if not, she sent both her kids to UM who went on to finish at UM Med).
