Barry Jackson -update on the UM/Diaz situation later today.

Big money boosters in the Mario corner have to know that you either get him this off season or you’re never getting him. Put up or shut up about the program.

Just hope manny doesn’t go on a run and save his job.

But the boosters also know that Mario isn’t coming here with Blake. Blake screwed him over 3 years ago. It’s either all go or no one goes in my opinion.

This is the only UM/Diaz update we need to hear about.

Inevitable but nothing is happening until we are officially eliminated from the Coastal.

It’s not a separate 501c3 (certainly not run like one of it is). The article says specifically we don’t have one like these other schools where they directly pay coaches out of a separate entity.

It is a separate entity. And what you are TRYING to allude to is a different issue, it has to do with disclosure and governance, which is what F$U has been working to accomplish (and UiF has done for quite some time).

Yes, I agree, UM has never used the HC to be a separate conduit to pay the coach extra money, since we are a private school and do not NEED to perform such end-runs around state law (as many other SEC/Big 10 state schools must do).

Again, I'm NOT sitting here saying that we SHOULD NOT try to utilize the HC in this fashion, but only that we do not NEED to do so to evade coaching salary limitations set in place by a state legislature. We CAN pay a HC anything we want, there is nothing stopping us. We have the OVERALL money, but if a UM President (or Trustee) wants to get overly officious about "you can only spend from the Athletic Department's budget", then sure, we do not yet have any "emergency infusion" process set up. We are not suddenly going to collect an adidas bonus, or sell extra tickets. Perhaps an alum/donor could earmark a contribution for a specific purpose, but where you ARE correct is that the HC has never been set up to offload its extra cash, annually, into the Athletic Department or the general University budget in the same way that the Bull Gators do.

But, yes, the HC could conceivably do whatever we want it to do. Still, there's not some emergency $20M to be found, either in the Athletic Department budget or the Hurricane Club. And if we want the HC to do more coach-funding, we are not prohibited from doing so, but there will have to be a lot more fund-raising done on an annual basis (not just capital campaigns).

We’re not beating UNC at their place. Not worried about that. An L to UVA would probably seal the deal.

We beat UVA the other bad L has to come from somewhere else… Pitt, VT, or NCST most likely.

Hate rooting against Miami every 2-3 years especially in a year when Clemson is very beatable. An 11-1 year and ACCCG appearance with the team we thought we had and were told we had would have been in the playoff this year. Already out of possibility 3 games in.

article is up now- Same nonsense, spoke to trustee's manny may get fired at end of year but not in season but people like blake. Also trustee says we dont have the money for mario.

but the only good thing from the article is the last line.

"At least one prominent former player covets the AD job if a change were made." That must be Zo

Just because Frenk does not care to meddle into athletic affairs doesn't mean he does not care about that aspect of the university. I see it more as he allowed and trusted Blake to be a solid leader and make the sports programs his babies which s the equivalent now of 10 year olds still in first grade.

I get Frenk letting Blake manage athletics but if he is a good president, he needs to evaluate Blake just like he evaluates all of the school's departments heads. So far, except for fundraising, what is Blake's Opus? The ITF? The new Hecht center? The new weight room? The new locker room? Graduation rate? What is the point of all of these facilities if we are not winning? Or attracting top talent? If they don't get the return on investment is the investment even worth it? We are three games into this season and we know that this season is on the brink of a disaster. We almost expect it. It's probably too late for Diaz to turn this around. This will be the first major athletic crisis on Frenk's watch but not the last one. Basketball has underperformed Baseball has underperformed. This all falls under Blake. If Blake doesn't get fired after Manny does then I have hope that he will maybe after basketball season or maybe even after baseball season. I don't expect much from those programs.

When Frenk got here in 2015, Golden got fired, Richt got hired. Not much for Fenk to do since he let Blake's make his first major hire and was focused other aspects of ther university. Richt made UM football temporarily respectable. The lazy a$$ decision to hire Diaz is strictly on Blake. Compound that with basketball and baseball mediocrity and hopefully it is enough to also bring in a new AD in 2021-2022. Richt's premature retirement actually exposed Blake's incompetence sooner rather than later, The only thing that concerns me is Frenk delaying the inevitable and not recognizing Blake's ineptness to do a proper and solid HC football coaching search. If iFrenk is a true university president then will fire Blake after the season. Something has to give this year.

You’re preaching to the choir, fam. I’m sick of it. The University does this to us over and over again.

We are due, aren’t we?

1. Manny is on the hot seat , he needs to finish strong to save his job, that’s very unlikely.
2. Blake is on the hot seat with important people, some BOT’s like him because he’s a good fundraiser ( some disagree).
3. Mario is the guy big money wants , Alonzo is also a want
4. He is right Frenk doesn’t care about sports.
5. Everything else is drivel he’s regurgitated from others. Feldman literally said alot of that in his piece. Miami has multiple people willing to spend.

If people want to believe him that’s good on them. It’s a free country Lol.
Thank you for this. I need Blake gone. I understand why it makes sense to fire Manny after the season but why are we waiting to fire Blake?

Is Blake that much of a fundraising savant? And if the football team is a dumpster fire wouldn’t this hurt fundraising?

That was the disappointing thing I got from Barry was that it seems like Blake is safe. Seems like you’re saying otherwise.

I am now on the Mario train especially with him developing a west coast network.

The issue is that Blake James doesn’t even know what a successful Athletic Department looks like, and can’t put the business plan together that would advocate hiring someone like Cristobal, and ultimately show the returns on investment.

I really hope Blake James goes down for the Manny hire, but I wouldn’t bet on it
