Barry Jackson on Fall Camp Battles

I cant get over the fact that Walton had one of the worse per carry averages in the country and his long run for the year was 20 something yards and yet he is considered the front runner for RB.

He had over 100 chances to break a run last year and couldnt do it once.

My order is 1. Yearby 2. Gus 3. Walton

One thing to look for is the Linebackers and depth. If DO is not ready to go, they should slide Gordinier over to WILL with Pinckney.
Kid is smart, hits and has great length.

Walton just has that look about him (from the spring game) that its his job. I feel that he will be the starter.

Obviously the coaches feel he was better than the other backs in the spring.

Definitely a concern of mine as well, but I remember Walton breaking a few runs that were called back on unnecessary penalties. If he performed the best in spring and fall, start him. He will get benched if he keeps that 3.4 ypc
 
Walton starting the year as the starter is based on what he did in the spring, and summer workouts. He was one of the guys who showed up to summer workouts at 6 in the morning.

I think they're also sending a slight message to Yearby who had a case of the fumbles in the spring. Walton is also Richt and Brown's guy. Remember, they tried to recruit him to Georgia and even got him up there for a visit.

Walton may be #1 , but I fully expect Yearby to carry the load if that makes sense.

I doubt they are trying to send yearby a message. If they thought he was the best he would be the starter. If anything walton and yearby will split carries and gus may get a few.

One of the worst things about the OL last year was the unnecessary and stupid penalties that did not help they play, just cost yardage. Our OL played dumb last year, so maybe that will be a major upgrade.

walton admitted he had a hard time adjusting. prob should have redshirted. also physically he looks different.
 
Walton did a **** of a job for a TRUE FRESHMAN walking into a KehoeColey buzzsaw.

He played with toughness and grit and showed a keen ability to find holes and finish.

The kid had a few runs called back that i'm sure would have helped his average. Oh, and he blocks!

He is the most COMPLETE back on this team, period!

Ya'll are looking waaay too deep into the yards per carry thing.

You can't keep going back and forth blaming coaches and players. IT's either or. And in Waltons case, i can guarantee you he would have killed it with UNC last season and they aren't even a running team. So my money's on the coaches in his regard. His YPC weren't indicative of his overall talent, imo.

It's the reason why the coaches like him. They clearly see the same things i see.

Not too many true freshmen backs come as decisive and tough as Walton showed last season. He may not be an elite athlete but he's a good RB.
 
Can't forget that Walton should have been a Senior in high school last year as well (he reclassified up a year thank god or we would have no running backs after everyone bailed on the Coach ***). I'm sure that had to be a tough transition. That combined with Coley game calling, and turnstile OL I'm not surprised at the results.

I'll wait and see how he produces this year but if he's outperforming the others then that is the best we have. Need to start closing on some home run threat/game changers at RB. Being located in Sth FLA should make that task fairly easy you'd think.

By now that number has grown to around 20 in some people's minds.

Running back is one of those positions you pretty much know what you've got from day one. Walton may improve a small bit, but he's an average back at best by our standards.

By now that number has grown to around 20 in some people's minds.

Running back is one of those positions you pretty much know what you've got from day one. Walton may improve a small bit, but he's an average back at best by our standards.

I completely disagree. That's total b.s. But we can revisit this in week 8.
