Barry Jackson notes on Canes

The third down and red zone issues can be improved in two ways. The line getting a better push will help but the bigger of the two is better QB play.

Rosier or whoever plays QB this year must go through more than the first read. I can only remember a handful of times Rosier scanned the field and went through his progressions. I don't know if that was coached into him or if he just relies on his feet to much.

Having a QB that can tuck and run is good but having one that can buy time in the pocket leads to big plays.

I have been hoping Richt would go to a two back set like he used at Ga, with all these rb's and receivers we have it could really put a defense in a bind, just to much talent on the field to defend it all. You combine that with a QB who can read and go to the right call, plus has a decent arm and is accurate, we will be VERY hard to stop. We are not at the point talent wise up front to play bama style ball, but otoh we can play more of a pro style, ie spreading the ball around, using our athletes on the outside, which in my mind as a lb is just as hard if not harder to stop. Richt really needs to concentrate going forward on recruiting linemen, on both sides, that is our weakness, get that fixed and we will be back, completely back.

Linemen, particularly OL, can make the biggest difference going from above average to excellent.
They keep the QB upright, get the short yardage plays that allow sustained drives and , most importantly, keep the D fresh.
I don't know what is coming this year, but we need major improvements. Rosier could run, but didn't have the IQ to help use what the line could provide, too.

Do you think Richt is just saying all the right things to keep Malik from transferring? I just can't understand how Richt can be leaning towards rolling with Malik.

Coaching 101. Its how you keep your real starter motivated to keep working.

It’s been plaguing Miami for years, amazing that we were in the top 10 for majority of the season being that bad on 3rd down when every other contender had much better 3rd down play. We fix that on both sides of the ball then we are rolling
Definitely something to look forward too. Best season in years, with all the draw backs. Straight to the top, from here.

Wildcat with DJ at QB Lingard, Homer, and George in the backfield and Brevin smashing down on a tackle... our goaline and short yardage issues are over.

Actually one of your better ideas, DJ can throw a short pass or a jump pass, and while not a prolific passer, he was a HS QB. So he’s a dual threat in that situation and we know he can run from the wildcat as he showed so effectively against Notre Dame.

Nope that’s not a good excuse, what about the games were teams just drove down the field and got whatever they wanted. Tired doesn’t matter with how much we rotate players in too... we was up 14-3 vs Wisconsin. They was tired then too? Pittsburgh, unc, clemson , uva from the start of the game drove the ball right down our throats, had nothing to do with tiredness
Facts.

I don't disagree with that in theory. But we had enough athletes to be better last year. Sometimes, you can have fast guys running downfield with their hair on fire doing everything wrong, and they give up big plays.

I like Deejay as PR too. I also agree that we'd be better off with a new primary KR. I thought Thomas would be dynamite because of his ability to cut at full speed, but he was super average. Lingard or Cam Davis could be nasty back there if they are fearless. Imagine those big bulls hitting that thing in there at 100 mph with no regard for life or limb.

That is true, but the lack of depth was apparent, especially at the skilled positions, and it showed up on special teams. Yes, we lose Berrios and we lose a placekeeper, but we do we lose on coverage? Nobody and we got a **** of a lot better and we have more options to return kicks. As long as the kid from Texas can kick, we have absolutely no excuse to not better in every phase of special teams.

No they didn't. They had 64 yards in the 1st quarter and their td scoring drive at the end of the second quarter was aided by a b.s. holding call on Jackson and two non-holding calls against Miami. They went 3 and out and their 2 opening drives in the second half.

Actually letting him pass would open up a lot of possibilities. Until he does, everyone will assume run.

I don't understand why some adult fans think that a freshman or sophomore isn't going to make mistakes and play like a player whose been here 3-4 years.we say the 2001 team was our greatest ever.bet anyone here if you check back in 98&99 .those great players had the same growing pains.intact if I remember right those two years banners were flying at the old ob

Our offense sucked last year and our time of possession was one of the worst in the nation.

I was fine with it being low when Kaaya was QB, but he was able to get large chunk plays and score quickly. Rosier is not that guy.

Running game last year was non-existent against good defenses.

I watched the FSU game again and our offense couldn’t move the ball across the 50yd line in the first half.

Too many games and too many times Rosier threw to WRs who were tightly-covered. He doesn’t go through progressions. He determines who he wants to throw it to and leaves it up to then WR to make the play.

Not even going to get into not being able to hit Jeff Thomas numerous times on the deep routes.

It was embarrassing to watch and have all of those high quality athletes on offense, except for the QB.
