Rosier won us some games, but he lost us some games too.
Other QB's better step up.
It's time.
And Richt better call better games - he's too predictable.
I never look at a QB as winning games. I hate that the media and everyone in the world started handing out wins and losses like a MLB pitcher. A baseball pitcher can strike out all the batter's without any help from his defense. He still needs his offense to score to get a win. Conversely, a QB needs so many other variables to do his job effectively. He needs the OL blocking, receivers to catch the ball, and a RB to share the load. If the defense can't stop anyone, then the team will lose.
The defense averaged nearly 3 turnovers per game. If the defense averaged one less turnover per game, we lose to FSU, UNC, GT, and maybe Syracuse. How does a 8-5 or 7-6 sound with no Coastal title? That's really what Rosier was. I nearly puked on myself when Rosier commented in an interview that he was a 10 game winner.
Rosier made some very good to exceptional plays during the season and the 4th qtr comebacks at FSU and home against GT were epic. Even in the 2nd half of the UVA game he was good. He showed great poise and leadership. I give him credit for that. He played very well against ND also.
However, I judge a QB based on his total body of work against his peers. Even that is subjective because other teams may have better or worse components to work with. His toal body of work showed inconsistency and a below average in accuracy and decision making on throws. Conversely, he did a better than average to very good job when choosing to run with the ball.
Some of the Rosier's 2nd half heroics would have not even been necessary if he performed just average in the 1st half of games. Let's not forget that if the defense doesn't get all those turnovers, Rosier doesn't even get those late game comeback opportunities.
As I said, I don't believe in QB wins and losses. But if you want to go that route, Rosier was a 7-6 or 6-7 QB based on his performances.
Rosier has a big advantage going into the Spring. That advantage is experience. A year of experience is worth it's weight in gold. He could be the starter for 2018 because he is battle tested even with all of his faults and should make some improvements.
I hope the under classmen push Rosier to be a better, more consistent QB or take the job outright. The good news is that the competition should produce better play from the QB position.
Even if Rosier holds onto the job in the Spring, he will have to play at high level during the season or he will be benched. He won't have the luxury of playing bad in the 1st half and making a comeback in the 2nd half. Unlike last year, another QB will get an opportunity if Rosier isn't getting it done.
