All analytics show that it’s best to pass on 1st down, and really to pass more often than not. The goal is to avoid 3rd down altogether. For anyone who is on twitter, follow Warren Sharp. Dude is a great follow who provides a ton of great data that backs up why coaches should do certain things. For example, the data shows that in the red zone, it’s better to pass out of a tighter formation because it gives WRs more room (field) to run and get open, meanwhile it’s better to run from spread out formations because it allows more room for running lanes. Little things like that which make sense when you talk about it, but may be different than traditional thought.

No kidding. You can always tell a coach has no clue what he is doing when he's passing from 4 or 5 wide sets at the 10 yard line. It is essentially inviting nearby defensive backs to ruin the play by accident.

That's why it is vital to have clever tight ends and versatile backs. They are so much more effective in the red zone than one dimensional receivers. My dad always thought it was unfair to the defense that Cleveland Gary was allowed to shift into so many sets down near the goal line.
 
Interesting, if you read the game day discussion people were begging Enos to run the ball MORE!
 
I'm sure if we pass 100% on first down we will continue to average 12 yards per first down play. Barry Jackson is a genius! :rolleyes:

I swear, we have the most stubborn coaches and admins. They don’t learn from previous mistakes! We either promote a coordinator from with in from the previous failed regime or we go get a bottom of the barrel discount route and get some inexpensive and inexperienced mid-level manager. It’s truly mind boggling. Based on prior history, if Manny was fired, there is a good chance James would hire Enos or Blake. This all comes down to accountability and there is none in the UM athletic department. None!!
 
Barry is kinda goofy and fat, but..He was the only reporter that put the heat on Richt. He was imo instrumental in his resignation. Go back and read if you dont believe me. It sounds like Barry has his doubts about Enos and even Manny so far. We need this guy publish all of their bleep ups when nobody else will.
