Barry Article On The Qbs

It was still Richt fault. Nkosi not being prepared was a direct result of the lack of accountability on Richts end.

Whatever went on offense last great is on Mark Richt.

so I got a question, is it the coaches responsibility to have you prepared or your own ? like I get it your coach has to put you in the right position but you as a player, shoot forget that as the University of Miami's QB have to take that in your own hands yes coach gonna give you the material but you have to build off that. not being able to pick up a simple blitz that's not on CMR that's on perry not studying. He simply didn't make the most of his opportunity. Yeah playing calling and what not made it even worse but as a player your job is to study and be ready.

I mean somewhat I guess but you can’t make excuses for them acting like they were last year. Just because you have a **** coach doesn’t mean you can act like a **** head

Last thing in the world I’m doing is making excuses for them. I’m pointing out that the root of the problem...where the problem starts is by Richt hiring his EXTREMELY unqualified son as QB coach. Arguably the most important position group coach.
Jon did not have command of that room. Jon did not have respect and obviously didn’t hold their attention. Had Richt hired a qualified QB coach...I have a feeling they would have been acting like they are now...kids respect (fear) a real teacher not the substitute that only has the job because dad is the Head Coach.

The posters putting all the blame on the players are the same people still waiting for D'Onfrio to get HIS guys in his scheme so the defense will be good.

Were the quarterbacks a bunch of clowns? Yes. Who recruited them? Mark and Jon Richt. Who was in charge of coaching them? Mark and Jon Richt. If the quarterbacks were all bums, why did Richt and Junior not even bother recruiting a QB to bring in this year? They were players that YOU recruited and YOU coach running YOUR scheme. I put at least 70% of the blame squarely on Richt and Junior.

To top it off, they weren't even recruiting another QB this past cycle. How the **** could they not???
THIS!!! If your QB room is chock full of idiots, then why tf are you only trying to recruit one gah**** QB? Then when that kid tells you to kick rocks, say, "well... we don't really need a QB this year." My *** would have been trying to sign at least 2. This kind of mismanagement falls squarely on the shoulders of the Head Coach.

This program has been plagued by locker room issues for years! I believe it was Roscoe that left early to be a 4th round pick, and that set a tone that kids were here for one thing and one thing only. Themselves, and getting themselves to the league as fast as possible. But what has been lost is the work it takes, the success that was build by those players ahead of them that gives them the exposure they have. The U has suffered way more than any of the egos we had to deal with that never actually WON anything.

How many other teams have kids leave early to be UDFAs or 7th rounders? I really dont know, but that type of mindset is killing this program. And it has somehow lasted through like 4 regimes. Coker, Randy, Golden, Richt and we still have diva problems in these locker rooms. I said it when Richt retired and when we fired Golden, we need a disciplinarian HC. Hopefully that becomes Manny. And I dont mean, like hard *** on the kids about things like social media, I mean, if you miss meetings or lifting sessions, I am all over you. If your not doing the Football work you need to be doing then you are either gone or not on the field. As long as we have QBs who are not the leaders of our team we will continue to struggle.

When was the last time the leader of our team was both, a social leader and the locker room/training leader at QB? Dorsey? Berlin? Jacory? I think it was Dorsey, players talked a lot about how much they would meet with him to throw, he was known as a complete book worm of the game of football. And he was these things amongst rooms full of alpha studs. We need a student of the game. And IMO its Martell. I will be completely surprised if he is not the starter so long as he gets cleared. Those others are hot garbage! Though I would hope Williams would stay around if he gets beat. But I am sure Nkosi would bolt or FIU or FAU maybe Marshall. I highly doubt any major program would take him.

Sometimes your employer is so **** bad you don't want to do jack for them. Man, half this board would have quit and gone somewhere else. I sure as **** would have, rather than playing in that dumpster fire O. It was THE most illogical O I have ever witnessed. Congratulations, you get to start and be embarrassed, because this O will make you look very, very bad. ***** that.

See that's childish and immature behavior. At the end of the day that line of thinking doesn't hurt the employer's future, it hurts yours. Richt's is going into retirement with money and a good public perception. The public perception on Jarren is now that he doesn't work hard or stay motivated.

At the very worst last year, Jarren could have separated himself among the three with his work ethic.

Got alot of mentle weaklings in that qb room.

In post season interviews richt said Williams would be given the opportunity to compete next season, implying Jarren was told he would not be starting his freshman year.

Also remember Richt saying multiple times in spring and fall practice that he was waiting for one of the young guys to come and snatch the job up but none of them was sound enough to convince him.

Sorry, not buying he didn’t get a chance thing. Make it impossible for him not to start you.

He did say so things. I wish I could come across the interview im referring too, but it’s waaaaaay to early on a Tuesday for that kinda effort.

One side of me wishes Manny had cleaned out the QB room along with his total flush of the offensive staff from last year...

... maybe there is still time to rid of a couple of them if they don't shape up.

If the ncaa clears Martell, and he beats this lot out during Spring practice, I predict that 1 or 2 of em will hit the road.

No. Richt was running an abortion clinic for QBs.

By the way, who's future is brighter at UM now? Richt's or Williams? Richt's decision to run that O was far worse than Williams deciding not to put in 100% effort.

It's stunning that Barry wrote an entire article about all the problems with the QB's last year...and didn't mention Jon Richt's name once....
And listen to what Diaz said of Metocha: “When you start looking at the intangibles of the way we want to build our quarterback room … He’s a gym rat, smart, tough, loves ball, wants to think the game out, a guy we thought would really help us reshape the quarterback room.”

Love the quote on Tate & the quote from Diaz on Matocha, I'm certain he'll end up Redshirting this season & who knows what he'll do in the next 3 years here, but the key phrases is "gym rat, tough & loves ball".

In today's era of college football, you HAVE to have a QB that absolutely loves the game & spend countless hours studying film looking for the tendencies of the defense. Talent can only get you but so far, you need to have an edge & that edge comes from preparation. There should never be any surprises when you step out their on the field, every look & coverage the Defense gives you, if you've studied you shoulda seen it already.

That's why I'm a big proponent of always recruiting QB's from Texas, the TX football scene runs college level Uptempo Spread offenses in HS, so those QB's are being prepped to run those style of offenses from 7th & 8th grade. By the time they hit HS even as Freshman & Soph they're already ahead of the curve, which is why so many of them transition easily & tear it up in college.

Plus TX QB's have a sh*t ton of pressure on them in HS, if they mess up or fail they have to deal with their angry helicopter dad coming down on'em because he can't live vicariously through him lol

Thank you, El!

Exactly what was pounded into my brain from the first day I played the position.

Think of the great UM QB's we all long to see reincarnated and walk back through the doors of the Hecht: Kosar, Walsh, Kelly, Dorsey, …. any coincidence these guys were brilliant between the ears and won the game during practice week before Saturday kickoff? Don't think so.

You're on the $

And Richt said we didn’t need a QB in the 2019 class. What earth were the two Richts living on to think the QB room was in good shape?

I think Richt knew about halfway through the season where things were headed. He didn't want to exert a lot of effort into locking in anyone. His promotions of Banda and Patke were the same thing. Those are Manny's guys, and while he retained them, he immediately went to market and got someone with experience to call the plays.
