Bama to pass 01 miami as best college team ever?

The new blood wants a team from their era to be the best in history. Barton Simmons, before joining Vanderbilt this offseason as a General Manager, would only claim 2019 LSU as the best team ever. No debate, no discussion, just the best team ever. But maybe he was dehydrated after spending the entire season drinking Coach O’s sweat.

Every few years this comes up, like with the 2011 OSU - before they lost. Then it was Jameis’ first FSU squad. No one remembers half that team, but everyone swore they had a 2 deep full of NFL guys. The modern college football writer spends more time on Twitter than watching games, and their analysis is generally a s’more of ***** and self owns. They have little to no understanding of the game before their era, which would be forgivable if they weren’t so demonstrably arrogant about it.

Almost everyone who got serious reps in 2001 is 40 or over now. Maybe the guys who were freshmen and sophomores haven’t cracked the mark yet.

This is one of my greatest joys of being a Canes fan. Article comes up proclaiming the National Champs might be the best ever and this board dusting off their 2001 calendars to vehemently defend a 20 year old team.
 
Its more than just draft day(s) to compare 2001 Miami vs anyone.

It's career days in NFL, season accolades, and of course HOF nods.

Another key point: the NFL value of the squad (yes it is the measuring stick) doesn't necessarily translate to best college "team" of all time either.
 
You said "best college TEAM," so the answer will always be 1995 Nebraska Cornhuskers. Beat Miami in the last game at the Orange Bowl for the national title in 1994 with Warren Sapp/Ray Lewis knowing they were going to run the ball right up the middle and test them physically all night long. Also beat FSU for the title the year before but were jobbed by the refs. Then destroyed undefeated Florida who won the title in 1996 the year after. A clean-*** three year sweep of the best talent in Florida. The most dominant TEAM of all time. Not collection of individual talents, but TEAM. 11 players doing their job in unison to win the game.
