“Tua Tagovailoa sustained a right hip dislocation that was immediately reduced at the stadium. He is undergoing further testing to determine the best course of treatment. He is expected to make a full recovery but will miss the remainder of the season.” – Dr. Lyle Cain, Alabama Team Orthopedic Surgeon, Andrews Sports Medicine and Orthopedic Clinic

Do you guys think he jumps to the pros and rehabs by a professional teams staff while also getting paid or does he come back to bama and get healthy and raise his stock?

personally I think he has the injury bug and he should get a head start on his career and getting paid. If he comes back he could get injured again

Bad situation either way. Will someone draft him now, not knowing how well he can play in the future? If he comes back and gets hurt again, it could end any chance of getting an NFL check. If any NFL team says they will take a chance on him now, he needs to go, in my humble opinion.

Perfect opportunity to leave. He's not ready to start and whatever GM takes him as a built in excuse to let him sit till he's ready.

They can anticipate a full recovery all they want. We will see. A full recovery and being able to play again at a high level may be two different things.

I wish him well in his recovery, but I’ve never seen anyone with that kind of an injury come back and play again.

Good time for an @apfenny3 question - is it safe to assume Tua and his family had an insurance policy for an event such as this? If so, what would the assumed value of the policy be in the worst case scenario (assuming this is near worst case)?

No question they would’ve gotten a Permanent Total Disability policy, and the Loss of Value policy is generally an add on attached. I’ve heard different amounts but I think most PTD policies would cover up to 60% of the projected total contract value. UM pays half the premium up to a $10million policy on PTD but nothing on a loss of value policy.

The main question is if Tua has to retire or not. If he can keep playing then he’d have to try to collect on the Loss of Value which would be the difference in projected draft position to where he’d actually end up. These can be tougher to collect.
