As long as the present AD and BOT are in place I doubt we will ever spend the money to attract top assistents
You are wrong. Clemsom, like UF and FSU in Florida, is a state-supported university -- not a private school that receives no tax dollars like Miami. As for being small, they have 20,000 undergrads.
As for history, Frank Howard was a legendary HC in the football history of the South. At one point, thought of as almost a peer of Bear Bryant.

State school and taxes have nothing to do with athletics. Tax dollars don't go into funding athletic endeavors or paying for coaches. Athletic departments are funded from within the athletic department through tickets, conference payouts, game appearance fees (for those school the big ones beat up on), and donors.
You're telling me that no money from the State of Florida went into building/maintaining the stadiums and all the other athletic facilities at UF and FSU? Or, their dorms, money for scholarships, etc? Looking to be educated.State school and taxes have nothing to do with athletics. If Clemson Can spend that much we can too
Small school with no real history before dabo
That money gets pumped in to the hospital. Miami sees this golden goose and takes it for granted.
Miami football apparently generates more than 100 million annually in revenue, not sure how much of that goes back into football but can guarantee its lower than other schools.
It's crazy how sports can warp your perception of the real world, in real life a guy making 500K is doing **** well and likely making a noticeable contribution to society, in CFB he coaches 18yr old linebackers.

Plus bag$$$ = $20M per year budgeted each
Thanks for the education. All these years I thought UF, FSU and all the state schools around the nation had some financial resource advantage over us coming from public money. So ... I'm wondering why we don't have a stadium like the Swamp or Doak, somewhere in Miami? It's all on "cheap" donors/alumni? I mean, we have the TV money, supposedly the ticket sales, apparel deals, etc!!Yes, that is what I'm telling you. The costs of most power five teams are covered by ticket sales, television contracts, apparel deals, and donors.
Where things get tricky, is when you drop down to the MAC level and so forth. Even the big schools have an athletic fee, but it is marginal at the powerhouse programs. The smaller conferences lacking the big television deals (their dream is to get picked up by a power 5 conference) are tacking more and more of those fees into the student's tuition bill. It has set off some alarms when said schools want to fund something for the athletic program (player only facilities in particular) as the regular students are paying for it, but get no use out of it.
It's an odd thing as tuition is rising exponentially across the land and most of it is tied to athletics. There's some interesting articles out there on the subject. Forbes has had a few good pieces, but one thing is certain, the schools really aren't transparent where all of that student tuition money goes.
Yeah, his DL got abused, big time.Kul is overpaid imo

Not price fixing (Nixon did that), cost control for parity. Ever heard of the NBA/NFL/NHL salary cap? Heck, MLB has a luxury tax that works sometimes (KC Royals) but most times doesn't (Red Sox, Cubs, Yankees). Wonder what sport is losing the most fans?
