i agree with that premise as well, however the losing record argument means we're not ready for prime time ala clemson, georgia, bama etc ... sound defensive principles has nothing to do with that

I agree that we're not ready for that but did you honestly expect that we would be after going 6-7 last year? why does us not being ready for that immediately following a 6-7 season mean that our whole staff needs to be fired and everything is on fire

we're not there yet and we don't have the talent to compete with those programs, it doesn't happen over night but 5-1 is literally as good as we can hope for on the right path to get there

i'll speak for me ... i never said fire everybody, i specifically said baker ... the vibe seems to suggest he's running manny's defense, not his own, and if that's the case, let baker go and manny should run it ... we need clarity on calls, alignments, and assignments, far too many weeks we're missing it ...

This isn’t a Miami specific problem though. All across the NCAA spread offenses are carving up defenses. It’s elite DBs that separate the good from the great and Miami doesn’t have them yet.

The whole premise of the defense is to seek negative plays in the mid field and then tighten up in the red zone when there is less field to defend and it turns out they are pretty good at that. (11 TD on 23 red zone possessions).

Take a look at the stats I’ve attached on negative plays. It’s not always pretty to watch but that is the philosophy behind his defense. Saying “we have no game plan if we can’t get negative plays” is like saying Wisconsin has no game plan if they can’t run the ball. It likely means losing man to man matchups not game plan issues (see Clemson).

100% Mannys D, that’s why Blake is running it because he is a yes man. But Blake calls the plays and I don’t think they are necessarily what Manny would call as DC.

our D hasn’t lost us a game this year outside of anything dealing with Clemson

If we get the offsides call they don’t get a second td. I don’t love the defense but if you consider we never get holding calls, you can win with it in today’s game.

So it wasn't automatic that once installing the spread offense the mediocre talent on offense would look like Championship material? Did hear a lot of that on this board.
 
You all have unrealistic expectations. Best player opts out, new LBs and Amari gets ejected every other game. We’ve given up 33 points in our last 2 conference games and have been solid overall. No DC in America is getting fired if their defense performs as ours has. Show me a DC that’s been fired with stats similar to our D’s under Baker. It’s not happening.

Just accept that the defense is solid to good and will likely remain that way until we can get more elite talent in the building. But Baker isn’t getting fired and doesn’t deserve too. This is 2020. Weekly shutouts are a thing of the past. If you hold a team to 19 and 14 points you should win the vast majority of the time.

We haven't played a good offense outside of Clemson. Louisville's offense is okay and they went up and down the field on us. The point is, this defense will not put up any resistance to good offenses.

I couldn’t believe it either. Total failure. After the score on the first drive. Baker’s D allowed them that ridiculous amount of points. I was sick to my stomach. The half time adjustments by UVA to erase the points off the board was something I’ve never seen.

Losing sucks!

Agreed. We played a ton of cover 1 man when he had Redwine at safety and then blitzed out of the same look and played cover 3 soft zone behind it on quite a few 3rd downs. Still never played matchup zone under Mandy which has always bugged the **** outta me. Covering air is all him

I agree, but I do think Manny is an above average DC. Not all world but it’s a DC that’d win you plenty of games.
