Those of you that say "this is Manny's defense" are technically correct. But, so what? Just because a coordinator plays the Tampa 2 doesnt make him Tony Dungy or just because a DC plays the the Bears' 46 doesnt make them Buddy Ryan. C'mon guys!

It might be Manny's framework but it's being executed differently. Manny never played this much zone defense and Manny had a strong track record of making adjustments when he was defensive coordinator.

Manny is the head coach and ultimately his future depends on how both sides of the line perform. I see signs of Manny's input. For example, why did we come out in the second half and play significanlty more press and less A and B gap blitzes? Did Baker adjust on his own or did Manny tell him to adjust? I don't know.

For the record, I HATE soft *** zone defense. I'd rather lose getting beat deep by playing man-to-man. The defense we saw in the first half was death by a thousand cuts and has reared its ugly head too often under Baker. Something has to be done and that ultimately falls on Manny but to blame it on his framework of defense seems misplaced.

What defense doesn't Clemson carve up. We just need to recruit better and we are.
 
While I do not like him as a D coord. Ever since 4th and 17 vs NC he seems lost. I will say though, there is no such thing as Canes football.

1988 defence doesn't play today. First off no one runs the wishbone, secondly the rules have handcuffed the defence to a certain extent.
D COORDS have to adjust to something to play against this RPO in the shotgun 3-4 Wr 's every play.

I honestly think NCAA defences have to just limit the TD's, and when you have to, make the stop and win 42-35. That is success.

the only coach drastically underperforming is justice, we just have a bunch of low IQ people on here.

UVA scored more on CLEMSON than they did on us yesterday, 1 TD was a miracle catch and the other was a PLAYER'S fault for busted coverage

Baker has really stepped it up

We win one of those games and finish 8-3 in my opinion. That's a solid season to build off of with everything going on. We likely get a ton of our draft eligible players back and go on a run in 2021.

People are consistently running wide open on us. We give up 3rd and long regularly. We have no answers if we don’t get a negative play. We depend on drops and mistakes from the offense to get off the field. It’s not sustainable. Real offenses, like Clemson, don’t make those mistakes and we get beat.

Justice doesn't have much to work with to be honest. I mean at least this year O-Line is serviceable in pass blocking. They will give you a clean Pocket 70% of the time which is probably up for like 30-40% last year..

I guess teams magically start dropping the ball only against us that’s why we have held every single team under 20 points outside of UL and Clemson

We are so far behind Clemson you shouldn’t even bring them up

Can you name a team this season who has stopped every single team they’ve played?

you make legit points ... that being said we have not been close to lights out bro ... when we stunt/blitz we have been incredibly undisciplined in our gap integrity ... and this soft coverage in the back is driving us crazy ... we haven't even been dim lights ... we got to tighten up
 
Last year were giving up 20.2 pts/game (23rd in scoring defense)

So we lost what, most of our front seven and our best corner.

This year we are giving up 22.2 pts/game (27th in scoring defense)

One might say that was coaching.

we were 6-7 last year

6-7

so yes in my eyes we have been lights out the last two weeks, specifically in RUN D and Points against which is the most important stat of all

I'm gonna shoot higher Mack, I say 9-2 and a Bowl Win. I like your optimism. I don't think Diaz or this Admin is the answer, but I don't ever want, hope, or wish for my Canes to suck just so I can see my desires or agenda met.
