At some point you are going to have to develop your own talent. If Luke doesn’t develop as planned, then I can see your scenario. You are not going to recruit many blue chippers at qb if you are portalling at qb each year imo

Unless your super highly regarded then you can come in as a TF and start depending on the situation. If that team is a tier 1 team and does not have a QB and whiffed on the portal, then that TF would start. And sometimes you do recruit QB's as career backups and hope they pan out cause you may have found something more. Or they may know that they will always be a backup QB and have accepted what they are. Also Coleman looks special in every workout, but we have to see him at the college level when bullets are flying.

This really goes back to Florida’s throwing in their ludicrous offer to Rashada, and the misfire with Gattis.

1. Rashada was to be Mario’s first blue chip recruit at quarterback. We lost him late in the process…too late to pivot to another QB for the 2023 cycle. If Rashada signs it’s entirely possible that with two years of progression he’s our QB this year.

2. Relationships take time to develop. Gattis was gone after a year, so Dawson comes in starting from scratch with blue chip quarterbacks. The Gattis misfire also helps solidify a reputation that Mario is not a QB friendly coach. Both take time to overcome.

So we are sign a developmental prospect in Emory in 2023, and another developmental prospect in Judd in 2024. With the time to develop relationships and show results, we get our first blue chip QB in Nickel in the 2025 cycle, and have another teed up for 2026.

In the meantime we’re compelled to sign portal QBs in 2024 and 2025 to get over the Rashada issue and the Gattis misfire.

Knowing how important this year is, it’s wild we didn’t bring in another competent QB from the Portal. 1 play away from having a FCS QB Room.

Dawson was on my **** list taking Judd over a local kid Bailey… nickel was a nice pull though I think he might be the real deal in two years.

Our QB recruiting the past 10 years has been abysmal since Kayaa. TVD had the arm talent just didn’t have it between the ears

Nickel, Coleman and hopefully Lawerence next year if the rumor of him reclassifying are true. Is a way better run

Rashada is at FCS Sacramento State. Bust at ASU and never played at Georgia. If he followed through with his commitment to Miami, he still would have been a bust! UiF did Miami big favor by getting involved with Rashada!
