Dont understand how we are going to recruit a QB to come be a back up for life---- I guess money? is there a solid good QB that will come in and understand he will forever be a backup?

this year we have to think how things play out --- luke is my choice for backup and I think a lot of others as well. think in the NIL era might have to rely on freshman qb's to be backups at this point

any other year I would be thrilled to have Luke be the guy after Beck but will he stay around and compete with Coleman? or will he bounce after Spring

Love Luke but Coleman is HIM --- bookmark this.. he is HIMMM day 1 HIM

just like baby jesus

I need you to stop putting your bad luck predictions on the most important position that we need

I was 1,000% convinced upon seeing this thread title and who posted it that you were going to be saying we don't need a back up QB, because Baby Jesus has it locked up if we need him lol
I mean technically baby jesus beat him as a qb already in highschool

Imagine that wildcat though 👀👀

What jersey number will they wear? That’s what will determine their success or failure.
Man this is tough. Jojo already changed his jersey number, I think he's gucci with staying with #0

I think Baby Jesus gets #1 before the season

Hopefully Mark Fletcher stays healthy and goes Pro

Then Coleman can rock his #4 BUT!

It would be dope to take #1 after and for Cam Ward

Too hard for Mario though we will see who hired as the Jersey coordinator and see what he is capable of

P.S. give Brantley his #0 back asap

Austin Simmons is Ole Miss's starter, but they still brought in Trinidad Chambliss to be a backup.

They did the same thing in 2023, when they brought in Jaxson Dart from USC, Spencer Sanders from OK ST & Walker Howard from LSU. All while signing Austin Simmons on the 23 class.

Then for 2024, they had Dart as the starter, Walker Howard as the Red FR backup, Simmons as the TF & signed AJ Maddox in the 24 class.

For this upcoming 25 season, it will be
Simmons as the starter, Chambliss as the backup. They also brought in Pierce Clarkson from LVille in the Winter Portal & will AJ Maddox as the TF.

USC also did this last year with having Miller Moss as the starter, then brought in Jayden Maiava from UNLV/UGA & Dylan Gebbia from North Texas to be the backups.

Now for this season, Maiava is the starter, then they brought in Sam Huard from Utah & signed 5-star Huson Longstreet from HS.

SMU also did it with Jennings, Preston Stone, & Tyler Aronson. Then once Jennings emerged as the starter, Stone & Aronson both transferred, sonthey brought in TVD & signed Ty Hawkins from HS.

There's other examples, but point is it's possible to sign multiple QB's via Portal with the specific intention of them being a backup. All it requires is honesty & having a plan.

There are several QB's on the FCS or lower levels that you can bring in & make them a backup. The same can be done with G5 QB's as well. You could probably do the same with P4 QB's as well, as long as they're not already a starter where they're at.

If you simply communicate with the player & tell them, "We have a starter in place, but we like your game & like what you could add to our QB room. There's always a possibility you could get PT if the starter goes down, but if you're interested in earning some money & raising your profile by coming to a school like Miami, we're open to negotiate."

It's not as difficult as people might seem to think, but on CIS everything appears to be advanced calculus because most of our fans have a very insular view of anything outside of Miami Football.

If you pay attention to CFB in general, it's actually pretty common.

great work.. agree and thank you

Joey Aguilar from UCLA would be a great option if Nico transfers there.

Not sure how many starting jobs are really going to be available to a guy like that. But probably will still go somewhere, evenif it’s G5, to actually be a starter though.

*Definitely
Lol. plus you still like him at North Texas.

Personally I just don't care about backup QB nearly as much as most people seem to always care about who the backup is. For me Nickel is fine. Next yr Nickel and Coleman will be great and we can decide if we need a portal guy or not.

We do need to start taking 2 HS QBs every year regardless how good each is, purely so we have some depth in development. Then even if you lose 1 a yr you're going to have like 3-4 on roster at least.

To me if our starting QB goes down I just assume we're ****ed for the most part. Sure maybe you can be okay, but ultimately I just want 95% of our NIL QB money going to the starter.

I couldn't disagree more with Coleman taking the job from LN.

Coleman looked like a cooked rabbit in the state title game. LN apparently had a superhuman effort in his respective state title game.

I'm excited for Coleman. But he's not walking in and taking **** from LN.

It's called being diligent.

In the event your starter goes down, it's nice to have a plan in place that doesn't result in simply having to tank the season because you have a QB room with no capable starters other than the starter.

It's an insurance policy.
