Back up LB?

Jennings is a monster, severely underrated thumper.
Who cares if he can hit hard, the last time I checked you have to be able to catch someone if your gonna hit them and Jenning not only lacks in the speed department, but also in the quickness.

Well... I care if someone hits hard, so there’s that.

But seriously, Denzel Perryman did just fine here and you basically just described him. Jennings makes up for the lack of speed with instincts and decisiveness and he packs a punch when he gets there. Beyond that, he’s not someone that’s going get pushed around at the point of attack in most circumstances.

I can't remember any justification to say Denzel lacks in the speed department. He's an MLB, they're not supposed to be super fast. As you said, instincts go a long way.

I'm probably more worried about McCloud than the backups.

Considering none of our backups have shown anything close to McCloud, this makes no sense.

McCloud is a good LB who is forced to play out of position in our scheme. He should be a 3-4 ILB. He's not a true OLB, but he does well when used situationally

We got Waynmon Steed, BJ Jennings, DeAndre Wilder, Pat Joyner, Sam Brooks, Avery Huff & whoever else we add in the 2020 class.

Steed & Jennings saw some action last year, but haven't played as much obviously because we had Shaq, Pinck, Zach as the starters for 3 years straight. Steed, Wilder & Jennings are all Redshirt Sophomores, so they're still being developed.

Sam Brooks imo will be in heavy competition to start in 2020 at WLB, he's a absolute monster in the making, with sideline to sideline speed, prototype size, violent aggressive tackler, with big play ability & his work ethic will force his way onto the field next year. Joyner has been moved to LB now & will play either SLB or Mike (depending where Diaz/Baker feel he fits best). Huff is a Strong side backer all the way & at 6'3 200+lbs after a full season in the S&C program will be a beast with high upside.

Diaz/Baker/Patke will have to get the LB's ready because most of them will be inexperienced in 2020, but just like the CB situation this year, you have to put the kids out there when it's their time & see if they sink or swim.

Diaz got Shaq, Pinck & Zack ready to go as TF's in 2016 & they've started every game at LB since, we'll have 6 LB's that are all Redshirt, Frosh/Soph/Juniors next year plus whoever else we add in the 2020 LB class.

And of course there's always the Portal, but the coaches can/will get them ready to go when the time comes. Yall will just to have to be worried about it because our fans are always worried whenever we have Seniors at position getting ready to graduate & have Redshirt backups lol.
Blessings from the Almighty.
Respect.......

My question is who starts next year. Nobody has proven shlt that they are ready to take over next year
Are you seriously asking who starts a year and a half from now? What a moron. These kids are still going through puberty. Worry about the now once in your life.

Meh. Based on what? Big, strong kid that can hit, but seemed to me like he was running himself out of the play the few times I saw him playing last year. He may end up being great - no shame in not seeing the field much behind Shaq, but haven't seen anything that really impressed me in the limited snaps I've seen him play.

What?

Dude, DP could RUN. He and Jennings not the same player at all imo.

I’m just basing it on having watched him throughout Pop Warner and High School and comparing him to a lot of other players I’ve watched growing up in this area. So my opinion isn’t based on what I’ve seem him do in college but more of what I’ve seen him do and who’ve I’ve seen him be over the years before college. I’ve seen ALOT of Jacksonville’s best players in person over the years and Jennings was one that made a fan of me for sure. We had Aundre Kearney commited from my old high school who fits the “fast and quick” mold, but when Richt and Diaz got here they dropped Kearney to take Jennings away from FSU. In my opinion it was because Kearney was questionable when shedding blockers around the LOS and Jennings had a little more lead in his ***. Both those LBers grew up playing on the same Pop Warner team and had different skill sets, after Pop Warner they went to rival high schools, than when we dropped Kearneys commitment for Jennings, Kearney went on to VT (had 18 tackles in a game last year) than transferred to UCF.

I just think people write off backups to early when they are in a situation like this where they are stuck behind a guy who is a 4 year starter. I’m a fan of Jennings and I think he’ll be a good solid starter for us after Shaq leaves. I’d reallly like to add Jennings little brother in 2021 as well.
