Back from the game(another Observation thread)

I've noticed something off with brad ever since that ACC media day he just don't look comfortable in his own skin it almost like he suffers from anxiety.

Go back and watch videos from his freshman year. He's always been an anxious speaker. You're just now noticing

Hey Vern, how about the OL, nothing mentioned there, unless I missed it because they looked horrible

About the Dline getting gassed, well that's what happens when you don't have depth. This is going to be one of the biggest problems for us, not just at DL, but throughout the roster. 4th quarter against FSU we'll see how much our lack of depth hurts us.

Berries just got a PR TD last game. Don't trip on his return skills because he didn't return one both games. I think Corn is our best returner but I'm not really tripping. In important situation Corn should probably be back there though. Obviously we can't risk Coley being back there. Bruce likely will get action as a returner, but he's suspended. I'm not very worried about our returners.

He is out for the year with a broken leg so probably not playing this year

Yeah I forgot about that. We've had too many injuries in the last two weeks. I can't even remember what everyone's got or how long they'll be out for.

But a broken leg usually isn't a season ending injury, not like an ACL is. usually 6-8 weeks for bones to heal.

True, but it's not like he will just bounce back. Miss a lot of practice and conditioning. Either way, he is needed based off our WR stats now. Are we just using vanilla routes until actual play? We better open it up and pound App State because this scenario just smells of a disaster and getting embarrassed on national TV.

DLine was gassed because they were on the field all 1st half because the offense couldn't move the ball.
FAU had 28:00 minutes of T.O.P, we had a ton of 3 & outs on Offense, therefore causing the Defense to be on the field more often than they should, which results in them getting tired. Depth isn't as big an issue on the DLine as it is on other areas of the roster.

This is against FAU. What happens when we play FSU, UNC, VTECH, ND? You don't think we will be in situations where our offense isn't doing **** and our D has to play a lot more than they should? The DL is the most important unit, and we happen to not have as good depth as we did a month ago. Lb depth is terrible, but we can mask that by going nickel. If corn gets hurt we are kinda **** at CB. S is fine but if Jaquan has to slide back at safety it screws us since he's our starting nickel CB.

I fully expect our defense to not be so great in 4th quarters. Even if we are extremely well conditioned, having no depth won't be good. When we beat FSU it'll be because our defensive guys left absolutely nothing in the tank.
What happens when we play those other teams? Who TF knows, that's why they play the game...
Different situations dictate different circumstances, some games will be good & others will be bad, that's football.
No team plays perfect every single game... We could just as easily assume that our offense will play much better in those other games which would then mean our DLine isn't on the field as much. Regression to the mean doesn't always have to be negative, you can just wait until the game is played... Or not.

You're missing my point. We have no depth which means our starters are already going to play more than they normally would. I'm not saying our offense will fail against all those teams. I'm saying if our offense does force our D to play a lot more, it is going to be much worse for us than it would be for other teams.
Vs FSU though, were 'real going to be gassed regardless. Unless we make big plays throughout which keeps them energized, I'd expect we need a 10+ point lead heading into the 4th quarter.

I thought we were a 10 win team with Brad Kaaya playing good ball. He is simply not playing good ball right now. I think they need to get him comfortable in a hurry, because something is WAY off with him. He looks rusty as ****, and there is no excuse for that. I don't understand why they aren't targetting Berrios AT ALL. Best way to snap a QB out of a funk is by letting him throw to his go to guy. I just don't get the lack of touches for BB.

But hey, had you told me we'd look that bad on O and walk away with a 28 point win, I'd have laughed at you. As bad as we were, it wasn't a close game. Our D is good, and will get better with guys returning. Just very concerned about Kaaya. Something looks wrong, and it's not just the O-line. HE looks off.
Maybe it's the elephant in the room. Kaaya may be who we think he is..just another guy

How about the ol. The ol yesterday was **** poor in the first half in pass protection. Gotta get better play up front and Kaaya won't look that scared in the pocket

Im not gonna front and act like I watch oline play...I never do...Kaaya cant be scared in the pocket.. LIke another POster said Drsiekl was getting drilled every play and he didnt look skittish at all in the pocket like kaaya did

He didn't look skittish to me and he shouldn't be since he was taking shots all last year, I think he was overdoing it in both games. To me, he looked like he was trying to make things happen and look for the big play instead of just focusing on moving the ball and letting those big chunk plays open up naturally. These last two tapes are great learning experiences for him, I have no doubt he'll look as good as ever against App St.

Isn't Bruce injured? I think Berrios looks terrible as a PR. If he would move upfield he would be fine, but he thinks he can get to the corner and turn it up everytime and he just doesn't have the speed to do so. If he used his skillset (quickness and agility) to get upfield quickly he would be much more effective. This is just my 2 cents...don't mean chit.

Not worried at all about starting 3 freshman at LB. Shaq plays like a vet, Pinckney is arguably as good or better, and we're getting creative at the Sam. I like the play of Mike Smith as well.. Just solid.

Having 6 healthy LBs on the roster is scary but getting Owens back fully will be nice.

Shaq and Mike are 2 of the top 5 LB we've had in years with Denzel in that category and it probably goes back to McCarthy and Spence for others as good as they are. It's crazy that I'm not surprised by them being that good either.

This is what top 18-25 football looks like. We'd be a 12-18 team if we had depth. Top 10 team if we had 1-2 game changers

Vern you're on point but you're holding back a little on Walton praise because you been dogging him for years. He was the whole offense yesterday and really the only guy who kept us from being in a total dog fight with that **** pile FAU club. He took over the game.

This "depth" mantra is this year's catch-all for everything.

Depth had zero to do with what we saw last night. Last night was all about Kaaya sucking and the OL getting whipped.

It's a little odd that Kaaya looks so uncomfortable. I was expecting him to absolutely go off under Rick's tutelage. He looked as bad as he's ever looked at UM last night. Looked scared in the pocket and very slow and indecisive.

Just wanted to Chime in o the dline being gassed. I was there (section 149) and I saw the same thing. There was one play where they completely stopped their pass rush while the rain was coming down. The depth needs to be there by conference play the way this defense is run. Super excited for the upside of Pickney. Dare I say it but he may have a bigger impact than Shaq when it's over. Mike Smith got a lot of burn and did well. Like what I'm seeing from Manny getting kids ready to play in the meaningful games. One thing of as food for thought, what happens if there are issues with the play calling, who is the person to sit down with Richt and discuss? Granted we haven't seen a scratch of he total offense but it's something to think about.

I rewatched the game. Brad was off, missing allot of high throws. And was not going for the check downs.

Yearby looks slow. Walton is so much better. I really wish we could see more of Homer. His burst is incredible.

I want SPEED baby!!

Jaquan Johnson is turning into the player we all hoped he would be. Not the biggest, fastest or strongest but **** can the kid play football.

The 3 freshman Linebackers are animals. All of them, they all bring something different to the table and are going to be a problem for teams for the next 3 years. They may make mistakes but they're making those mistakes with aggression and bad intentions.

It's a great day to be a Miami Hurricane!

Overall nice post .Dont agree on Yearby -he looks quicker and just as strong . He shed some weight and gained strength and his vision and cutting ability is second to none.

It has nothing to do with depth (in terms of the offense from last night). I can't believe people keep preaching this bullchit.

I don't get what is going on with Kaaya and Richt, clearly things are better when we're in the spread. I don't know why Richt seems to be forcing something.
