Aussie style punting !

I just think the rugby style punt and taking your sweet time that far pinned back was dangerous. There’s no time to play buried that deep.

There’s plenty of blame to go around, replaying one play won’t change **** . There’s 140 + plays in a game.

That goes without saying in any game decided by one score.

However on the blocked punt it's 100% on the blocking and really Bauman as he's protecting the right edge. If Bauman collisions Kamara does that guarantee victory? No. Indiana was gonna get the ball in good field position and we don't know what happens from there. But when it comes to addressing what went wrong on that punt.......it was the blocking and specifically Bauman that messed up. He didn't miss a block he literally didn't even try to make one. If he attempted to collision Kamara and just over extended allowing Kamara to cut insdie....okay. That's a physical mistake. But Bauman literally just patted him on the shoulder and ran up field like he wasn't someone he needed to block.
 
Also Indiana didn't make every play. They didn't "play perfect" despite the media pushing that narrative. **** they made the biggest mistake of the game outside of the blocked punt (could argue it was worse) when their "All American" (lulz) LT Carter Smith false started moving them from 2nd and 1, 2 yards away from kneeling the game out, to 2nd and 6 which allowed us to get the stop, force the FG, and have a chance at a game winning drive.

Do they play pretty clean games? Yeah. But this idea that they never make mistakes is absurd. **** Mendoza tried to give away their game vs Iowa this year with a bad reckless throw that was INT'ed and gave Iowa the ball, game tied, on the IU 32 or 33 with about 2 1/2 minutes left. If Iowa's starting QB hadn't been hurt earlier on what I think was a non contact injury they probably win the game as he was able to dink and dunk which probably allows them to pick up the 1st so they can run out the clock and kick a sub 40 yard game winner with no or virtually no time left. As it was their kicker ended up missing a 42 yarder after hitting from 40 and 54 earlier in the game leaving IU 1:56 to try and win in regulation. Iowa played super aggressive on D, cover zero, and on 3rd and 10 an Iowa DB missed a tackle and went 50 yards for the TD.

How that guy stayed on the field all year is beside me. The guy was constantly looking for someone to block rather than engaging where he was needed.

He plays like he's afraid of contact. No idea how he makes it past any week's video review by the staff.

Who was responsible for personnel?

Was it Woodiel? The other ****? Kalter, Kayler, Kayla, Kylie?

Kyler Quinn would be an upgrade over that guy.

This 100%.
The blocked punt happened right in front of me. My immediate thought was when he saw the penetration, run into the EZ and eat the ball or out the back if possible. Better to give up 2 in that situation than a soul crushing unearned 7.

Agreed. They scouted it, we didn't self scout it enough. He is slow and our TE sucks. Ridiculous all around. The more I see the play, the more ridiculous it is.
 
We need an on field ST coach.
Butch made ST’s a priority, we do not.
As much I like Marion, we haven’t done **** all year on KO returns and we weren’t even getting to touch back distance in this game.
Marion should have been told to take the TB every time.
He has poor vision and runs straight ahead 8 times out of 10.
Toney looks for gaps/room on the sidelines on PR’s, Marion doesn’t.
This is partially on coaching and partially on a lack of vision, but our ST’s in general could be so much better.

On everything I love, we have to upgrade special teams. The reality is we have to think that from now on we'll run into Cignetti somewhere along the way. If you ain't all the way buttoned up he's going to expose you. We lost because of two plays on Special Teams. It has to be addressed. It's insane that we lost because of Special Teams. We haven't been elite on special teams in too long. Has to be upgraded man, in a major way.

If Cristobal had turned to the stands and grabbed some dude on the sideline seats and said, "Get out there and help block for this punt" it probably has the same results as having Bauman in there.

Indiana had a false start and a late hit that kept us in the game. They had dropped passes too. End of day as bad as Bauman was, Beck made a bad throw.

I thought the same thing and then I timed it. He was 2 to 2.1 seconds snap to kick on the first 2 punts and right in line with the season. The blocked punt was 1.9 seconds. That's NFL speed.

He either over rolled his protection or 87 was legitimately just sleep walking.

@JayCane20 , is is possible to tell if Bauman's "wave-through" caused the punt blocker to SPEED UP as he approached our punter?

All he had to do is bump him hard or block him. He failed to do his job and that's one of the reasons we lost. It's very simple to say the least.

Bauman, QUITE LITERALLY, waved the guy past himself. Used his hands to sweep the defender towards his punter.

All he had to do was FIRE OUT at his guy. HIT HIM. Push him just a few inches farther to the outside.

Nope. Couldn't do it. Just waved him by.

Yeah I think I posted around halftime- “I just want to have the ball last with a chance to win” Well we did. All the mistakes, etc but we controlled our fate. Can’t ask for a lot more than that. It’s cruel to say Beck choked-Marion was open but he doesn’t have the arm to make it. Also a little bit of this goes back to prep and coaching. Marion and Beck weren’t on the same page in terms of the route. Tough to explain at that point of the season (and the stakes) so much route confusion.

Mario beat them and beck didnt have the arm but he should have just went to Toney then. Toney was eating them up alive.

Yeah I think the entire world expected the storybook ending. Miami got a couple miracles - Indy false start and then roughing. We had 40 yards and almost a full minute. Toney gets the ball on a little crosser and gets it to the 5, Cristobal gambles on not stopping the clock and gives the ball the Fletcher who runs in it with time expiring. I think that is what stings the most. We all played out the ending in our heads, and even Indy fans expected it. Beck has to be smarter there. Take the easy throw. Personally I think there was also a huge window for a massive gain on a RB draw. But it’s all water under the bridge now.
