Aussie style punting !

They blocked multiple all year. They had the balls to try it.
I’ve been asking myself this question for years. Teams no longer try to block them for fear of the penalty. And teams are playing like they know they’re not gonna try it.

And they literally blocked one in the playoffs.

We played safer and more afraid than they did because they don’t make the mistakes we do.

87 is too soft to be placed with that type of responsibility. But I guarantee you that nobody in that special teams room planned for them to go after the kicker.
And that’s a huge red flag.

I’m going to say something controversial, but it needs to be stated. This is y I stressed in my thread about the bad being our ST. The punt block was nothing more than the result of several blunders:

1. As much as I love Toney, and I do love him as a player on our team, he had zero business catching that punt, that deep. That was a touchback; but, instead of starting our drive at the 20, we started it at the 6. (ST error 1)

2. Throughout the telecast, it was emphasized how well IU have blocked kicks/punts since 2024. On the other hand, IU does not return punts well. Therefore, we should’ve been in max protect all game, ESPECIALLY that deep on our end of the field (ST error 2)

3. **** poor blocking. Two whiffs led to an easy block & recover. (ST error 3)

3’s the charm; it also didn’t help that we went 3 & out keeping us pinned in our own territory, either. I believe @fraggle mentioned his concerns about the need of having a dedicated special teams coach on staff. ST & penalties have been an Achille’s heel for us for a while, honestly.

Miami didn't have any punts blocked all year. The aussie style punting was fine. The problem was Lofton wasn't on ST due to injuries so Bauman took his spot. If Cristobal had turned to the stands and grabbed some dude on the sideline seats and said, "Get out there and help block for this punt" it probably has the same results as having Bauman in there.

I guarantee they did. They blocked one against Oregon and it's obvious we punt slow. No way we didn't talk about it

I was so ******* angry when this happened. Was in slow ******* motion too. This absolute *******.

Even the DE was so f'n slow mo.. that a regular punter could have pulled it and run a fake for the 3 yards for a first down...

..f'n Bauman and his lame a$$ approach to everything... butter fingers.. hasn't caught a single pass where he was hit... useless

Who would have thought not having Lofton available would have this much of an impact on the game. And the irony is, Lofton got hurt getting hit while catching a ball, something Bauman is completely incapable of doing, smh.

That is 100% on his immediate coach who should be noticing this and telling him to kick the **** ball quicker
I thought the same thing and then I timed it. He was 2 to 2.1 seconds snap to kick on the first 2 punts and right in line with the season. The blocked punt was 1.9 seconds. That's NFL speed.

He either over rolled his protection or 87 was legitimately just sleep walking.

Indiana wasn't trying to block that punt! They sent I think 3 players past the LOS for the same reason you send Dlineman after the QB even when you read screen. Someone has to pressure him. Bauman just let him run straight past him. That's as bad a play as I've ever seen. Kinda thing that makes you ask "was he point shaving".

I'm surprised there aren't more blocked punts of Aussie style punting. They always go to their right to punt. Overload that side on the line of scrimmage. You never see an Aussie style punter go left. They can't. They can't punt to the left side. Rush the right side hard and you have a very good chance of getting a block.

You are right .. seem like they always roll to the right! I prefer the original way of punting.
