Yep...they were trying to avoid the PR backlash so tried the "safe" but still good hire of Cristobal. Freeze will do well there, and likely doesn't have to "try" as hard in recruiting as he had to at Ole Miss since Auburn football pretty much recruits itself and is sort of the little brother of SEC powerhouse recruiting programs like Bama-LSU-UGA.

Side note on Cristobal....if he's smart he stays at Oregon and keeps racking up PAC 12 titles and then bolts for Clemson when the Saban retirement actually happens....because Dabo can say what he wants but when Saban retires Dabo will be announced HC at Bama within a week.

PR backlash at Auburn? You mean like the 5 minute scandal when they paid Cam and won a title? Scandals aren’t an issue there.

Doesn't need to sell and "convince" as hard at Auburn as he did at Ole Miss. Auburn isn't on Bama-UGAs tier in SEC recruiting but it's in a higher tier than Ole Miss and Miss St. Auburn "shot callers" will make sure recruiting is the last thing he needs to "over exert" himself doing lol.

Exactly....that's why they circled back to Freeze in a hurry lol....Auburn knows that Freeze is an "SEC" guy and that they clearly had the best job open right now so they could afford to shoot for the 1A guy in Cristobal and if Oregon ponied up the dough to Cristobal they'd circle back and get the guy they had circled as 1B and just deal with the "1 week (probably won't even last 2 days lol)" of bad headlines that it could bring.

Why would Dabo go to Alabama?

He's built that Clemson programme up from nothing and their boosters spare no expense.

Why go live in Saban's shadow?
