Attendance This Week

I love the canopy, although I do remember it getting a bit stuffy under there last year at the FAU game. Wonder if they've done anything to improve air circulation

That has to be something they needed to fix. That canopy wasnt worth **** last year. Not only the FAU game but we might as well have played that FSU game at high noon as hot as it was in that stadium that night.

Yes, they've fixed the stuffiness and heat issue. There's a big ole' hole at the top of the structure to let air in. They also recommend for you to bring one of these:

Ladies, seriously?

Ummm..why spend the money to make the upgrades if the **** dont work? They were better off leaving it the way it was and spend the money on a better WiFi network. And again..you want "non-core" fans to show up to the games..gotta entertain them and make sure they are comfortable. Otherwise you posters who love to bytch about attendance can just get back on your soapbox again.

I mean did you just actually post this or am I having a bad dream. Somebody wake me up…

I sure enjoyed the canopy at the FAU and Pitt game when it rained buckets.

Which part? The part about wanting attendance to increase because while its cool to say "I dont care whos there! As long as my 35k brothas are with me doesnt matter" on this board..I want to get to the days where we average 60k at SLS. Makes for a better atmosphere. That FSU game was electric. Best atmosphere for a game since we left the OB.

Or the part about the canopy? We will agree to disagree on that.

I'm not really complaining -- I sit pretty close to the field and usually get enough breeze to be comfortable. During the FAU game, I went up to the upper deck to visit a friend and noticed how much more muggy it was up there.

I sit low upper deck. It is now unbearably muggy. That season with the open corners in the upper bowl when they made room for the new big screens was an absolute joy in terms of air flow. Far superior to anything before or since. It demonstrated how poorly designed the stadium had been from the outset.

Now we have the contrived fix which obviously was going to massage many aspects for the better but air flow is sacrificed. It didn't cease to be brutally muggy last season until beyond mid October.

Naturally the always fearful SAM types who occupy this forum were paranoid early last season when I mentioned the people who were fanning themselves throughout the stadium, especially in the upper sections of the lower end zone but also scattered throughout. Those SAMs now claim Canes fans are obsessed with how other fan bases view our attendance. Hilarious. Two years ago and throughout the late stages of the Golden era the attendance was a weekly frothing topic here. Lower...Lower...Lower. SAMs desperately wanted it to be lower. Nothing that was announced or proposed was low enough. Somehow it was brainstormed that lower attendance somehow made Golden look bad, as if he wasn't already doing a sufficient enough job already.

So now it's exactly the opposite. It's like we've gone from one end of the Price is Right singing spectrum to the other. Those same SAMs are bellowing Higher...Higher...Higher, as if the resurgence of the program is somehow validated or impacted in the slightest by some butt in seat digits.

The world is a Happy Adjuster. Make it anything you want it to be. Guaranteed whatever the announced number is, some posters will be desperate to adjust it.

As always, SAMs are none too bright but dependably entertaining.

My brotha, always wanted to ask you..Are you an English professor? Dude you write the longest posts I have seen on CIS ever. Reading your **** is like reading someones dissertation. Carry on though.

You can tell the people that never went to the Orange Bowl games. During sellouts, which weren't that often, maybe once a year rarely twice, I promise you it was hotter and more uncomfortable than it's ever been at HRS

I have been a season ticket holder since 1982. I got receipts my friend. Hot is Hot. The hottest game at the OB was 2000 FSU/UM. You never get use to that ****. That said..I will be there rain, shine, snow, whatever.

I've never been hotter and nastier than I was at that game.

Yep that was a scorcher. I was about 10 years old, still remember the swamp-*** I had midway through the 3rd quarter

Spot on. The product on the field usually negated the un-comfortability of those games but I absolutely remember thinking that this is like guarding that super sweaty guy in a pickup shirts vs skins hoops game just by bumping into or celebrating with other people in your section. The only difference was the overall body moisture was usually at least 75% alcohol.

Did someone complain about the heat at the FSU game? lol not one time did I even think about the temperature. But then again I've sat in high noon games at the OB with 95 degree temps in November.

LOL - you can't forget those experiences and you're right all the winning made it bearable. But when people complain about HRS, it makes me laugh.

Yes, I realize it gets muggy under the canopy, but so what. Any outdoor activity in Florida can make you muggy and unomfortable. That's just south Florida.

Think about what a hassle it was to get an El Presidente at the OB. Or going to take a ****. Or being squeezed in with a bunch of hot sweaty people. Or parking. Or no shade or cover in a lot of the stadium. It makes me think that these people complaining about the heat had never been to the OB, and don't know how good they have it now.

Hottest I've even been was at that game. I threw away every item of clothing I wore that day. They couldn't be saved.

If there was a saving grace at the OB it was that the east end was open and you could at least get a little bit of a breeze coming through. That said, it's a million times more comfortable in HRS with the canopy. Maybe the nosebleeds don't get the breeze they used to but I can assure you, the lower bowl never got any type of breeze ever so it is what it is.

And yes, the amenities are significantly nice at HRS now and it's generally a fun game day atmosphere. But hey, Marlins park is air conditioned for all you princesses that can't handle a little south Florida humidity. They could use some more fans.

Thats just it, my brotha. I dont ever want to remember or re-live those days again. LOL.

Another extremely hot game was the 1992 FSU/UM game. I remember people were passing out that game.

Any stadium, even if it's open like HRS, is going to be hot and humid, if the ambient conditions outside are hot and humid.

The fact that there's now a canopy is by its nature a trade-off. You're eliminating the direct beating sun, but adding a bit more humidity. But the much greater discomfort, and danger, comes from direct sunlight. Additionally, there are easy and convenient escapes to cooler locations if someone is that uncomfortable.

Add to the typical Florida climate in a stadium a 9 million pound meat blanket set at 100 degrees, and yes it's warm in the stadium, as it would be at any stadium in the entire country. Thats almost 5,000 tons of an undulating 100 degree meat sack added to the environment. That's just Florida weather and warm climate stadium dynamics. It's true everywhere there's a stadium that isn't an indoor one.

Deal with it, or just stay inside your house all day in the AC.
