Obviously have seen this topic pop up on this board and elsewhere. A few people have tried to clear the record felt it should have its own thread.

I was in the middle of the large mass of people involved in this incident and just giving my take.

First, we did not "attack" the band. I did not see exactly what happened to the band leader specifically, but Miami fans in general were not attacking the band. The UF band were not exactly being polite either. This was going on right in front of the stadium, maybe 100 yards at most from the main exit. The UF band began walking through the mass of thousands of people which was not in a barricaded area (no ropes or cones separating), and expected everyone to just stop and let them all through. Entitled UF fans (band) hard to believe I know. "Everybody just stop because WE want to walk through right now."

Not surprisingly most people (especially Miami fans) were like "wtf?" and just started "pushing" through like what happens when people are trying to move through a crowd. The UF band were more aggressive trying to prevent people from walking through than those that were trying to walk/push their way through imo. When my own 60 year old mother was trying to make her way through, one kid was about to push her and she said "Don't even think about ******* touching me." He didn't. I'm sure incidents like this were happening everywhere.

It's a college football atmosphere things are going to get a little rowdy. Of course we are going to get negative coverage but it is mostly FAKE NEWS. It was two groups of people standing their ground. A few people got roughed up I guess. If this incident happened 10 years ago it's not even news.

So When did the Band Director get pushed? He probably was the one who gave the OK to walk through the Miami Fans.

I love that the whole rationale for this ridiculous charade is that the band leader needs to keep track of his "kids".

My gawdddd, where is Ben?! He's an asthmatic for chrissakes!!! Anyone see Marjorie?!!! I promised her mother that I wouldn't let her 22 year old daughter out of my sight!!!!

What’s really irritating is how the news media just runs with the story and the ridiculous headlines and pictures. I’ve seen “assaulted”, “attacked”, and “roughed up”.

Not one news outlet doing the least bit of work. So they are all assuming the band can physically barricade the exit tunnels so they can leave first. Not how it works at that stadium. Did the band director have permission to physically barricade people in by grabbing them? He should be fired or arrested for even attempting to do something like that.

And the band member who got bloody nose, got it from anxiety.

Did the Miami band attempt to barricade fans? No.

If you guys are on social media, please reach out to these “journalists”. One is Ryan Gaydos who wrote an article and made a video for Fox News. Not sharing their crappy articles but reach out to him

I can't remember when, but it may have been the Orange Bowl vs. Wisconsin two years ago, same/similar situation. Crowd of fans trying to get out of the stadium when, all of the sudden, the band just comes marching through the crowd, stopping everyone else from being able to exit the stadium. Hundreds of band members, obviously being jerks, creating a major bottleneck for the public. It's ludicrous that these schools think this is ok. Have a plan and don't have it be "our gang is bigger than yours and we're wearing uniforms, so we can do whatever we want and everyone else better just stay out of our way and wait for us to pass".

When that's your attitude, of course stuff like this is going to happen. Especially when your plan is to exit through the opposing team's fans.

On a similar note, my family and I walked alongside the UM cheerleaders exiting the stadium on Saturday in Orlando. Obviously, not as many of them as the band, but they blended seemlessly into the crowd, abeit much better looking than the rest of the crowd, and caused no such issues. It's really not that hard to not act like SS troops.

The stadium was a mess trying to leave. There should be a way to open every gate upon event end.
