That notion of a national championship is one Graham takes seriously enough that he plastered the phrase in gratuitous fashion all over Arizona State’s football facility as soon as he got there. Another of the rubber bracelets on his wrist reads “NC-16” (shorthand, obviously, for National Champions 2016). That may seem a bit ardent when you’re coaching a program that’s played in only one Rose Bowl since 1987, but Graham doesn’t see it that way: “Why would you not have a goal of that?” Graham says. “Is that abnormal thinking? Maybe. Is it elite thinking? Yes.”

College Sweethearts: Todd Graham and Rich Rodriguez Bring the Golden Age of College Football to the State of Arizona «

Crazy that a school that has never won anything is aiming for a national title, while a 5 national championship winning school is aiming for #TheCoastal in year 5.

Not surprising.

Golden has infiltrated this program with a loser mentality.

The fact that Golden keeps talking about the **** Coastal is an embarrassment.

Urban Meyer would rather take a public whooping than mutter the words "B1G East is our goal."

Yeah , but Todd Graham doesn't have core values and a binder. Advantage Golden

IF Miami was talking about winning national championships every comedian on this site would have some variation of "LULZ, national championship? Golden can't even win the Coastal." He certainly wouldn't be complimented for having high expectations.

This ain't hard. Whatever the program does, go oppo and you're getting an up vote.

Graham openly admits that last year’s 10-win season was “miserable” because his expectations were so much higher, especially after the Sun Devils jumped to no. 6 in the College Football Playoff standings following a win over Notre Dame in early November; they followed up that breakthrough with a loss to Oregon State.

vs.

"if the fans would stop *****ing and just see the progress" after going 6-7

Yeah, and?

Todd graham blew out of Pitt in 1 year because he sniffed the sheer loserism of coaching at a school that doesnt care about winning, is caught in the past, and plays in a pro stadium in front of 10,000 people

All programs should have and only have winning their next game as a goal. The rest will take care of itself.

If you deep throat butch davis you get three upvotes. You should've seen this site when they had rep betting. It looked like a circle jerk combined with a bukake convention.

Oh the Butch Davis that was 0-10 against FSU and Virginia Tech and 0-2 against ECU in his first 5 years? I'm sure everyone here would've been very complimentary of Butch during that time frame.

OP....no, no, no, no!!!! Everyone knows that there's building blocks, FIRST, then pillars! This coach is way too irrational. You have to win game one, first, then "try" to win your division, then "try" win your conference, then "try" to win a bowl game. That's how it goes, OP! Just shooting for the national championship is too far fetched! I mean, you can't get to two, without 1 + 1, right??? I don't know any coach in their right mind w/ the goal of winning the national title. It's all about division, division, division, first.
