Texas A&M commit Aston Whiteside visiting Miami this weekend
Callaway’s Take: If you’ve been following the site over the last couple of months since Whiteside made his commitment, the news of his visit to
Miami this weekend shouldn’t come as much of a surprise. It’s been in the works for some time, and when we initially heard about the trip, there wasn’t too much concern surrounding his commitment status.
Everything I’ve heard on my end supports what Joseph has been reporting regarding a potential flip to the Hurricanes. There’s certainly some momentum in favor of
Mario Cristobal and his staff heading into the weekend as they continue their push to flip the four-star linebacker. As things stand right now, I believe he’s more likely to ultimately sign with the Hurricanes than the Aggies. I’d also continue to keep an eye on
Kentucky if nothing materializes in short order.
Hasting’s Take: The initial feedback from Whiteside lining up a trip to
Miami was one that did not cause a lot of worry on my end. Whiteside had been planning to go to the school since a few weeks prior, before A&M’s 2026 outlook became what it is now. He also never visited the Hurricanes for an official visit despite having plans to do so. Remember,
KJ Edwards last year took a trip to
LSU while committed to A&M because he told the Tigers’ staff on his official visit that he would do so.
The more digging we’ve done here, however, paints a bleaker picture. There is confidence on
Miami’s end that they will pull off this flip. Whiteside is their primary target at linebacker, and the work has been put in to seal the deal as early as this weekend. Whiteside would not be a devastating departure for A&M’s class as a whole, but the perception of a flip would be less than ideal. In these quote-unquote seasons from ****, all it takes is one decommitment to potentially open the floodgates. Nothing has been set in stone yet, but Whiteside is trending away from A&M at this time.
Over/Under 1.5 decommitments for Texas A&M in October?
Callaway’s Take: Right now, I’d take the under. I think
Aston Whiteside to
Miami has some very real traction, and based on what I’ve heard from a pair of sources since Monday, I wouldn’t rule out a flip sometime this month if the visit goes as well as expected. He’s the main name we’re monitoring right now, and the Aggies have some work to do in order to hold onto his commitment.
Outside of that, we’re also monitoring top-ranked offensive tackle
Mark Matthews, who is still deciding whether he’ll visit Coral Gables or College Station this weekend. I don’t believe a flip would take place until later in the cycle for Matthews if something does end up materializing, but the Aggies will be very aggressive in their efforts to hold onto his commitment, which I believe they’ll ultimately do. They’ve also quieted some of the noise surrounding
Florida after hosting four-star defensive end
Frederick Ards, who, at one point, looked like a potential flip candidate. It wouldn’t shock me to see the over, but I’d lean toward the under, as the Aggies have done a phenomenal job of maintaining their recruiting momentum despite the struggles on the field.
Hasting’s Take: I’m going with the over here. Whiteside is one we’re definitely keeping an eye on. Our latest intel suggests that
Miami believes they can flip him as soon as this weekend. If that happens, it could open up the door for another commitment who is weighing his options to do the same thing.
