As if the weekend couldn't get any worse

I was laying in bed yesterday morning despondent over the canes and our beloved Great Dane Baloo came over to me and laid his head on me in an attempt to make me feel better.
30 minutes later he collapsed and we rushed him to the ER, unfortunately he passed away last night shortly before midnight.

He was the best dog. He always knew how to cheer me up after a canes loss.

I'll miss you forever dude.

Sorry brother. Tough loss. Puts life in perspective relative to the pain we feel watching this **** show play out in the field. I feel for you.

I feel your pain man. I've lost two good boys this year and one only a month ago in a similar manner to you. Really puts what's important in perspective...

I'm sorry for your loss. I know that It's gonna hurt for a while but hopefully you can find solace in the good times and knowing how happy he was with you and vice versa. It makes it easier to keep on going knowing they would want me to if they were still here. Time heals (or at least numbs) all wounds...

Really sorry for your loss. We had to put our 7 year old pit mix, Stella, down a year ago August. Her kidneys were giving out on her. Hardest thing to ever do is say goodbye to someone that loves you without any conditions. I still tear up when I walk around the house and look at some of her favorite spots. It’s unfair.

Very sorry for your loss, brother. It's such a tough deal. I lost my two Boxers in the span of a year a while back. One was expected and tough slow slog and the other was almost exactly what happened with your guy as it was a Saturday after a Canes loss and completely out of the blue.

All I know is that two things people have written or said have stuck with me on this front.

The first was this great and absolutely true line in a tribute Peter King wrote about his dog years ago in the middle of his Monday Morning QB article linked below:

"The easiest way to not feel this grief is to never have a dog. And what an empty life that would be."

The second was more recent and from this great tribute Scott Van Pelt did for his dog:

"Nothing we do could earn what our dogs give away to us for free."

Sorry again for your loss. Not that it makes things easier but it looks like your guy had a great run.

While no words will take away your grief, hopefully you and family and take comfort in the moments and memories you created.
