This kid coming in stronger or about as strong as many 2nd and 3rd year guys on this team and far stronger than many of the previous freshman.

This kid is going to be a monster!!! I see why our line can't run block out of a power set..... several guys can't even bench 300 or squat over 250....those numbers look like they came from a HS football team....the offseason emphasis should be getting stronger!
 
Kid has a ready made body to compete immediately. He carries his 290 to 300 pounds well and should be able to put on positive weight unlike most big kids who need to drop 20 to 40 pounds and significantly reduce body fat.

The movement shows one has to have excellent core strength of the lower back and abdominal to execute the movement. It also looks like he is quite "lean" for 290-300 lbs and our S&C staff has a good starting point to worth with him.
 
Also looks like he's been hitting the conventional lifts quite a bit. Goes deep in his squats which breaking parallel can mean quite a bit more that just above parallel.

Here is last Summers 2015 weight numbers from Swasey and there were to high schoolers--

"Trevor Darling gained strength. His squat went from 365 to 405,

"Alex Gall ran a 5.50 40 last year; this year his time was 5.52 seconds. He had a 455 squat"

"Danny Isidora ran a 5.33 40 time (last year he ran 5.13). His squat went from 430 in the summer to 455"

"Jahair Jones he tested this summer at 5.53 seconds in the 40 with a 400-pound squat, 232 power clean and 335 bench. "

"Nick Linder: Linder ran the 40 in 5.62 seconds (5.53 last year) and tested at 345 pounds in the squat, 276 in the power clean and 325 in the bench "

"Freshman Brendan Loftus tested at 275 in the squat, 242 in the power clean, 295 in the bench and had a 22-inch vertical. He weighed 293 pounds and his 40 time was 5.44 seconds."

"Freshman Hayden Mahoney tested at 365 in the squat, 232 in the power clean, 335 in the bench and had a 26.5-inch vertical. He weighed 287 pounds and his 40 time was 5.44 seconds."

"Freshman Bar Milo tested at 275 in the squat, 252 in the power clean, 315 in the bench and had a 23.5-inch vertical. He weighed 279 pounds and his 40 time was 5.64 seconds."

"Freshman Tyree St. Louis tested at 455 in the squat, 301 in the power clean, 315 in the bench and had a 24.5-inch vertical. He weighed 305 pounds and his 40 time was 5.72 seconds."

"KC McDermott: His 40 time went from 5.56 to 5.48, and his squat went from 365 to 395 while his bench stayed at 385. His vertical went from 21 to 22.5 inches and his power clean stayed at 276. He weighed in at 317 pounds, up from 307 last summer."

Speaking from my own personal experience. I rarely saw any improvements in my squats doing power squats where you just break parallel. I remember a friend convincing me to do olympic style squats where you go down as far as possible (which helps improve flexibility). I remember my max at the time was 255 on squats in August. Six months later I got up to 315 (these were at 5 reps btw).

That's troubling that some of these kids came in barely able to squat their own body weight. But that's more of an indictment on HS S&C if anything.
 
Linder's feeble lack of strength was exploited badly in the ND game. That DT tossed him around like a gimpy premature baby.

Very short sighted post. A lot of the offensive lineman that are worth a **** come out of the Midwest. You heard Chise say it, it's a culture to workout over there. You need your linemen strong more than anything. For linemen, your power comes through your legs which is why you see such a large emphasis on squats and power cleans . Also, they're not tested regularly against speed that exists in South Florida; it's something you have to adapt to. I remember our offensive linemen with Swasey just being big and fat - those weight room numbers that were posted was troubling.

Spot on.
One could argue how effective those exercises are towards becoming a stud college OLman, but this would be missing
the point, the bigger picture, which is this kid is putting in a considerable amount of work to be the best he
can be, which is a huge factor in being an excellent OLman.
And this sort of thing is contagious....you want kids on team who spend more time in the gym and classroom then
in their dorm or car smoking marijuana.

Yep, yet folks were oohing and ahhing over those numbers.

No one's slurping. And those paradise drills always favor defensive linemen. You're the one coming out here implying that S&C has no effect on how good an offensive lineman will be - I say otherwise. No one has said Dykstra's coming in day 1 and going to be a starter; it's quite the opposite. Kid probably won't see the field until he's a RS Sophmore, but I'm good with that considering every program has kids like this that are developed long term and are at a school for 5 years (including their RS year).
