Article: Canes at a Crossroads Under Cristobal.

Recruiting is already much harder.
Notice the trend his first two years compared to last year.

At the current pace we will land possibly outside the top ten. Meaning if Miami doesnt win this year, they are back to the 10-15 range instead of the 5-7 range when we really need to get to the 1-5 range.

In order to do that they need to win and produce NFL talent. Or else Mario's peak will be 8-10'wins as a tier 2 program .

I was told there are more investors ready to jump in the NIL bamdwagon but are waiting to see if we win or not.
An ACC title would go a LONG LONG way.

First off, who do you replace him with?

1. Urban Meyer. Pay him all the monies. People with his ego can’t bear the idea of leaving a coaching career in disgrace.

2. Gruden. Make the prophecy finally come true. I doubt most people even remember the scandal.

3. DeBoer- shouldn’t have stepped into Sabans shoes. An excellent coach but I think Bamas entire model was premised on cheating and Sabans cult of personality. I don’t think he lasts two more years if he doesn’t win big soon.

4. Lashlee. He’s the poor man’s choice but I like his approach to the game.

5. Give Cristobal an extension. Just accept he’s the best we are going to do. I think he might be able to make a playoff push in year 7 or 8.

You didn't answer any of the questions I asked you. Therefore I'll just assume that your opinions are just conjecture and assumptions, which is fine, but just say as much.

The quote was a direct quote from a staff member. So no while
Mario is not getting fired, their goal is to compete for championships. That task will become significantly more difficult if we dont get an ACC title or at least make the playoff this year.

I have not heard current NIL funding will be pulled. In my article in fact I stated we were among the best when it comes to NIL already.

However I was told by a source close to the program that there are new sources of NIL that are taking a "wait and see approach" before invensting in Miami. They want Miami to win this year and take that next step ACC title/ Playoff before committing.

I'm not going to downplay the significance of winning and the direct results it CAN have on recruiting. I will say though that NIL payments are of significant value and can be the reason why some kids choose one school over anohter. The part you wrote that I bolded above is precisely my point and is why I questioned you saying that recruiting would get much harder without the winning. If we post another 9-3/10-2 season with questionable head coaching, we MAY see a slight downturn in recriting rankings but we are not guaranteed to tank in recruiting. If the NIL dries up as a result - meaning the donors give us an Hasta La Vista Baby - then yes, it will become massively more difficult to recruit.

Good article brother.

I mentioned this last week about the season being huge for Mario. As you said he’s not getting fired but it’s more the macro , long term prognosis of the program.

Mario only has one card left to sell kids on, it’s the “ 5,7 and ten wins . Every year another step is taken in the right direction”. If he face plants this year or underachieve’s with the NIL he’s afforded , recruiting classes , portal additions and constant turnover with bad hires I don’t know what’s left. How many more mulligans will he need ?

Previous coaches here wouldn’t have been allotted the privilege of making bad hire after bad hire then paying to make the mistake go away. Then starting over again. On top of the huge financial backing put into the program. Those coaches would’ve worn out their welcome fast.

Lastly another part of this is will he keep having access to all this Nil if he comes out and lays an egg? Nothing is more annoying than seeing your money go to waste as a donor. This year is huge and for a multitude of reasons. Mario has to break through to the Acccg / playoff . Or it’s just another wasted year.

Take a look at A&M

their recruiting after the #1 class took a hit.

They took a step back and went #19 and #15 respectively. Elko had the #10 class this year.

He currently has a top 3 class. If he craps the bed don't be surprised if he takes a hit this year and stumbles in next years class.

Again these kids want to win and go early in the draft. They are going to bag schools who are offering these two things as well.

Michigan State has a strong NIL program but as soon as they started losing their recruiting fell off with classes in the 20s to now the 40s and 50s.

thanks man and agree with everything you said. They feel the same urgency inside the Hecht.

Call it karma or whatever but we're overdue for things to work out this season.

People always say this, but I'd say all the evidence is the exact opposite lol. Our Administration has ALWAYS given every coach all the time/opportunity to prove it - especially when they factually have shown tangible progress year over year. And regardless how people feel last season was probably our best season in almost 20 years. Why would the administration look at that under a different coach and have their finger fondling the fire button lol. It's just not true plain and simple.

Like the admin /school isn't the one paying the NIL. So what the **** do they care.

Texas A&M was 8-5 last year - a typical Jimbo season - with Elko at the helm. The example you're giving isn't really jiving with thte premise you're trying to attach to it. I'm not looking for an argument and I hope you didn't "hear" that tone in my comments.

I'm not saying that winning isn't important - it is. It's far more important than recruiting rankings because ultimately, that's what the program is judged by. Yes winning has an impact on draft success/recruiting. So we are completely on the same page there. I'm not buying the gloom and doom, that's all. We've had 4-5 years of recruiting classes under the new rules (that don't even really exist yet) and I don't think that's a big enough sample size to draw some of the conclusions you're trying to draw. You might end up being right. You might not. We will see. The End.

They’re the ones paying the buy outs for all his firings sport . My post went over your head. Miami has been cheap hence why they wouldn’t fire people. They literally counted pennies . There’s a reason multiple coaches had to sue UM to get their money. So “ giving them every opportunity” is false . Miami was the dollar general of P4 programs for multiple decades. Al Golden wouldn’t have been able to keep moving on from coordinators and assistants every year because Miami wouldn’t eat that money.

Golden I'm pretty sure would have been able to fire Donofrio and hire someone else lol.
Think Richt had the funding opportunity to hire an OC just like Diaz had to hire a DC. Yet they chose not to.

And I'm sure one of the primary factors in us getting Mario were the promises made to him to be afforded to spend like that. If we never would have increased the budget allocation he wouldn't have even come here in the first place, I'm thinking.

So yeah the same money wasn't there, but absolutely they gave coaches quite long leashes to prove themselves imo.

That’s what worries me the most but I gotta believe no matter what Mario is here for at least another 2 after this year unless he goes 7-5/8-4 the next 2 years.
Guess is the money guys actually hold the key to that kind of decision. If they’re Mario guys, he’s not going anywhere.
