Arky State Game cancelled Thread

How does leaving players in the path of the storm promote safety? The had a tremendous built in evacuation plan, and that was to fly to Arkansas. Families of players could have been given the option to ride out the storm in the safest building on campus, but they would have been comforted knowing their sons were safe in Arkansas.

This is reactionary pvssy ****. People invariably panic in these situations because cancelling everything is the "I ain't getting blood on my hands" easy move.

Yes. Well put.

But nobody wants to hear reason and logic like that.

Truth be told, **** hurricanes. They damage lives and property, and apparently they ***** up football schedules as well.

But what I hate the most about hurricanes is that they turn a gathering of otherwise regular dudes into an estrogen-riddled coming out party.

These are the times when some dudes put their hats on and go to work, while other dudes want to give each other hugs and talk about "what's really important." I can't stand that weak ****.

Your last paragraph is a thing of beauty.

Maybe they could have waited to get a more definitive forecast, but I understand the reason for the cancellation.

I can't agree with you on this one, though. There is a real possibility they could have been stranded for days even a week or longer. I'm not saying it was probable, but possible.

Now's probably a good time to stand behind the program and support it, especially since the decision's already been made.

I would have supported it a lot more if they would have at least rescheduled the game.
They can't, they don't have matching byes

That's convenient.

It is what it is and why are you so worked up about Arky state? LOL I'm having hernia surgery tomorrow and was looking forward to watching the game but it's Arky state, there are good games on and I'll be in Tallahassee in a week and a half ready for war!!

****, we just waited 8 months for football to start.

Also, I don't think it was necessary at all to cancel. I think it was typical Blake James, play it safe stuff. Very much in character for our AD, IMO.

How many of you clamoring to play this game have actually been in a real hurricane? How many?

For those of you that haven't, but are clamoring to play this game have no idea what you're dealing with.

I have lived through one of the largest and most destructive hurricanes of all time, and these things are both terrifying and unpredictable. These kinds of disasters are about 100 times worse than they look on TV. Anyone that wants to play a **** football game with this storm bearing down on S. Florida is either of their **** minds, or never experienced a deadly hurricane

When storms like this head your way you want to give yourself as much time as possible to prepare and for your family to prepare---that's because everyone is trying to evacuate, which snarls traffic, or buy **** to hunker down (e.g., groceries stores/hardware stores packed and hours in check out lines, gas lines a mile long). It's a chaotic experience.

Families can be without power for weeks and even getting basic necessities can become a feat. Then there is the storm surge that raises the sea level to unimaginable levels. This results in MASSIVE flooding along the coast lines

This storm is monstrous --one of the biggest we've seen, and you want to be proactive and ahead of the 8-ball, not reactionary and/or playing catch-up after that beast is already on top of you. That's a HUGE no-no for a storm like this. You don't even know if the airport will be closed and for how long....if you'll even be able to drive for days or weeks. There are too many variables in play and too much uncertainty to take the risks to play the game.

And sure, Miami can play this game and then stay in Atlanta for week, but by doing that you would've changed practice patterns, study and class time, and the general outline of how you prepare for a game on a weekly basis. You'd put tremendous stress on the players, and that is a huge deal. That's not something you want to do going into FSU.

It's done.

Time to move on.

Then move on.

I have.

We know you guys wan to see a game lol but if a category 5 hurricane is coming towards my mom house no way im leaving. Families need their strong boys back to help out if things go wrong. Think of Chad Thomas his mom has health issues he has to make sure she is ok man.

Sometimes a game is just a game don`t let it be a focal point in your life.
Stay home during a mandatory evacuation is going to do what exactly?

It hasn't been evacuated! If u don't live in florida please stfu (not sayin u don't but whoever doesn't needs to stop with these evacuation claims until it's official!)

It hasn't been evacuated but it doesn't take a genius to realize it will be. The storm is bigger than the state.

There's no doubt taking the players out the state would be the safest move "for the players and staff" but what about their families? UM gonna ship them all out too??? I know if i was on that team i'm not leaving my family behind in Miami while a hurricane hits to go play FB just not happening!

How does a child staying in Miami stop his family from being impacted by a storm? The storm is going to do what it's going to do regardless of if the child stays in Miami.

The child, however, would be absolutely safe in Arkansas. UM could give the immediate families of the players the option of riding out the storm in a safe structure on campus.

I could understand cancelling the game if it was in Miami. In Arkansas? LOL.

Lol at calling these dudes childs, a bunch of these players actually have their own children. You want them to leave their girl and kid at home while they go play a game in arkansas? You're disenfranchised.

You have obviously never experienced what a category 5 hurricane does to a community. I've experienced it first hand, people have homes not safe to live in, no means of leaving and no food or water. Also, no businesses are open and no power for weeks.

By citing a mandatory evacuation, are you assuming that all UM players and their families live in Miami Beach, Key Biscayne and other coastal portions of Miami? Very sound assumption.

I'm gonna make the assumption that you don't currently live in Miami and are rather clueless
Born and raised in Miami and went through Andrew. To me I take the kids to Atlanta. Do what you need to do but Thursday we leaving

Confirmed don't livein Miami and clearly aren't in tune with what's going on. You're approaching this from a selfish perspective of wanting to watch the canes play. I get it. But sometimes you gotta know when to stand down
How is going to Atlanta wanting to see a game? To me you have two days to help do what you need to do with your family but Thursday we are leaving.

It's not about stopping the impact of the storm dude! It's about being with your family... wtf are u missing here?

Yes. It's very important for a child to stay in the potential path of a storm instead of evacuating to Arkansas. It's much safer to keep the child in the potential path of the storm so he can be unsafe.

So you do live in Miami, yet you think the whole County is currently under evacuation order?

Do you live in a house or under a rock?

Who is th3 dumbass that started this thread. Hey dumbass, do you live in South Florida? Do you see what went on in Texas? Alot of these players not only have relatives, but children, wives girlfriends etc. They have not record any storm before that had the size and category of wind speed. 150mph is category 5, this **** is pushing 180+ . Think before you open your trap.

Weird statement by a dude ****ed that a GAME is cancelled so people can get their families ready for a disaster

Great plan! Lets use Mark Walton as an example... Coach Richt - "Mark we are going to play in Arkansas this weekend despite the huricane, sorry but you have to leave you 1 year old and girlfriend here while we go play this mighty team."
Mark Walton - "No problem coach, it's the safest place for me"

Keeps our players fresh, more time to study FSU (our players can watch them play Saturday at noon), our players would have been very distracted playing that game, we don't get to be a Sun Belt team's Super Bowl.

Don't worry Mark Walton.. @TheFranchise said your fam can stay at the campus.. bc that won't be affected by the potential storm

So, basically what you are saying is that playing a football game in more important than the players families.

It really is too bad they didn't cancel the Bethune game. I'll never get those three hours back.
