I still believe that any time Regula is on the field, it is a failure.
Nothing against him personally. I just refuse to believe there isn't another personnel package that we could put out there that doesn't improve our chances at a successful play.
that's how i feel about fentress on defense. he's playing pretty well, but having a walk-on get that much playing time means that either he's superman or we've got serious depth issues.
The secondary has no idea what to do when the ball is in the air.
Minus':
- coley **** show for 4 series up 20-7 which included ill advised trick plays
- bringing kaaya back in to ruin his almost perfect day with a pick and end on a sour note
- kicking game/special teams
Plus:
- def stopping negative momentum of coley **** show
- Kaaya
_ Dorsett
Him and Carter missed a lot of ****** tackles today. A lot. Bush was the worse of the two but he did have a nice tackle on that QB sackBush has just been a disappointment, dude looks like hes regressed since his Frosh year
* Kaaya must really have been tight at Louisville. His arm was pathetic in that game but now it's more than serviceable. We'll still have to see how he fares on 3rd and 10 dart requirements in hostile territory. But the deep stuff can get there. Has a real chance to be a top flight collegiate quarterback
* Two early September home games in comfortable weather. That in itself is a minor miracle. Nice breeze in both games and no threat of troubling sun today. It was hilarious when very brief heavy showers would scatter fans toward the exits.
* Second straight game as heavy home favorite and we don't manage our 30th rushing attempt until less than 5 minutes remaining. That shouldn't be possible.
* Arkansas State lacked the inside running threat that type of offense desperately requires. I mentioned that early in the week. They do plenty of things correctly but the defense doesn't have to respect everything and can steadily apply more pressure if there's no threat of anything up the gut. Still, they missed plenty of open looks. I don't know how it appeared on TV but from the stands it was remarkable we avoided so many vulnerable situations
* Deon Bush can pretend he's a good player for 2 plays each game
* Nothing needed to go sideways against that caliber of opponent. I still don't know what our identity is, other than hoping for big plays.
* Walford's frame looks considerably better and more normal for a tight end this season. He always had a strange shape for that position.
* Don Bailey Jr. on the postgame show says it all about a full week of practice. That cleanses everything. You can't expect a competent performance if you don't have a full week of practice, or are forced to deviate from normalcy by playing on Monday night.
* The Band of the Hour doesn't need to be playing the Star Spangled Banner without a singer. The guy next to be laughed and I was trying to restrain similar.
* I'd love to meet the genius who sets up the board on the rim of the stadium to provide scores of other college games. On Saturday he had games in the rotation that didn't start until hours after our game ended and the stadium would be vacant. I wish I were making this up. Games that were in progress were ignored yet we got to see constant reminders of USC vs. Boston College and Arizona State against Colorado, among many other night games.

You nailed it right there. This is the essence of Coley's playcalling philosophy. Get the ball in the hands of your biggest playmakers but do so in the safest most obvious ways.
He doesn't use his intellect to scheme opponents and devise creative(not tricks or gimmicks) ways to create favorable matchups to get his playmakers open. Instead he just hands it to Duke against a 9 man front or throws a bubble to Coley or Dorsett in the most obvious situations then hopes those guys break it. He can then claim that he got the ball into the hands of his playmakers. Coker did that to an extent but as a coordinator Coker was light years ahead of Coley from a schematic standpoint.
I want more herb at the games myself
minus was pass coverage. howard worries me. always seemed to be four defenders around the wr but none of them could stop the wr from making a catch

I hate to say it, because I like his fire and all, but Tracy looks more and more like a Zone corner. More man he plays, more he gets beat. Didn't fight for the ball yesterday on some deep stuff. Made some good plays, though. I know he wants to play more man, but he sure seems way more effective playing zone.howard worries me but in a different way. how the **** on howard and gunter so solid last year and now look lost in the defense. regression is something that has happened far too much at the U in the past 10 years. when i watch the raising cane vids, i see golden doing his best to hype up the players. what i really wanna see is players firing the players up. wanna see energy and motivation. we don't seem to have many vocal leaders on this team and i don't think the coaches help in this department.minus was pass coverage. howard worries me. always seemed to be four defenders around the wr but none of them could stop the wr from making a catch
yep, it appears we can play DT now.Oh, huge plus not mentioned has to be our play at NT this season. Drastic improvement.
