Areas of optimism this season?

Major upgrades in coaching, philosophy, conditioning, home field advantage.

Budding star QB with a hungry QB guru as his tutor and play-caller.

A return to an attacking 4-3 defense.

No more patty cake on the DL.
No more frog stance.
No more binders, pillars and other such puffery that has nothing to do with CFB.
No more Kehoe shuffle on the OL.
No more slovenly looking players on the sidelines.
No more cubanaso, random play calling on O.
No more orange ties.
No more empty slogans and superfluous buzzwords.
No more inexplicable rattling off of player's weights.
No more "again's", "at the end of the day's" or "it starts with me's".
No more excuses.
No more Golden, Coley, Kehoe, Donofrio or Swasey.

In other words, no more suck.

Better preparation and overall game management. Maybe have 3 timeouts left for late in fourth quarter in the few games that were not blowing the other team out.

I'm too worried about all our deficiencies to be excited about anything. Gonna take a couple years to get this thing turned around to the point where we can start expecting Coastal titles.

UNC took several years under Fedora before it fielded a very good team that is the Coastal top dog.

Opposing QB's will have 2.7 seconds to make a play as opposed to 7.2 seconds.

I like Fedora and I agree that he has fielded a very good team but the stars were aligned very well for them in '15.
Looking at their schedule, back to back blowouts against us and Duke at home and the ACCCG loss to Clemson were the highlights of their season. They had zero wins vs. teams that finished in the top-25.
It doesn't take much to be the Coastal Top Dog these days. UNC was 6-7 in '14.
I expect us to contend for the Coastal this season and next, even with our deficiencies. That's not a reach.
I'll expect us to win Coastal titles, 2018 and beyond.

You're getting ahead of yourself. 4 years should be the standard for getting a Coastal title. You guys are looking for miracles expecting so much so soon.

Remember how 3 years was the standard by which Shannon and Golden managed to get rid of their predecessor's stink and get us all the way to 9-4. Baby steps in the right direction.

Then in year 4 we all thought they were going to take the next step and actually win the Coastal Division.

Oops.

God I hate how people are discussing Coastal Division titles as being an achievement in this thread.

What are we, UNC?
