Are we worried about Donaldson?

Not sure if its just the way he's put together, or S&C or both, but he looks really sloppy physically out there. Nothing like elite linemen on elite teams look.

J Jones should not be on the field

Donaldson is not quick enough to be a Tackle. Was thrown off balance even against Toledo level players

Groom Scaife at RT and move Donaldson back to G

thats going to happen by the end of the year. boulwere will eat up jones reps

i wouldn't call donaldson a bust. i put him in the mccloud camp. over-hyped, thrown in before they were ready category. i come here and everyone is talking about donaldson the beast, the mauling rg, etc. then i rewatched last seasons games and i don't see it. at all. but all off season he gets this greentree hype, i watch the games and i don't see it. i just hope it doesn't take 8 games into the season for searles and richt to find the right combo like it did in 2016.
That was tough. Immediately when they did we were scoring from long distances regularly and rolled the final 4 games.

This guy got so much hype. Is it simply because he isn't a RT and is being forced there?

I mean eventually they gotta make a change to this OL. They played better today but something is just not right there at times.

Of course, he's playing out of position due to recruiting ineptitude.

Our OL stinks b/c our OLmen are misplaced.

Donaldson’s footwork and speed is awful. Why? B/c he’s not a tackle! He’s a mauler! He needs to be inside as a guard.

Put Scaife at RT and put St Louis at LT. Put Gauthier at LG and Gaynor at C! Boulware, Jahair Jones, Mahoney have no business out there. That should be our OL. But will this happen? Nope. Why? B/c Richt and Searles r stubborn af.

What did you think was gonna happen if you play somebody out of position?

I can see clearly now. The kid is out of position at RT and needs to switch back to his natural position. dUh.

I’m all for some changes to the OL because at this point, what harm would it do? I would start by moving Gaynor into the C role, his line calls seem to be better than what Gauthier is putting together right now. Move Gauthier to LG and get Jones out and down to 3rd on the depth chart. Guy can’t play D1 G position and certainly isn’t a T either. If you don’t like Gauthier at LG move up Boulware then. Move Donaldson back to his much better position at RG, where he made AA as a frosh last year. The kid just plays much better in space and can get to the 2nd level and maul LB’s and safeties. Lastly put in Scaife as the RT. Surely he can’t do any worse than Donaldson who’s clearly playing out of position. There you have it - the best OL Miami can have right now given performance, practice, and execution in games. Let them gel the next 3 games and see if any further adjustments are needed. And I agree with a previous poster; quit with absorbing DL on pass protection plays and teach the OL to punch out and create space during passing downs. This should allow our OL to not only get the room they need to seal off lanes, it also affords them control over where the DL go. With Rosier not being the tallest of QB’s we need to secure passing lanes for him to get the ball out to our receivers. Not saying that will mean he’s more accurate. But it will hopefully improve his field vision so that he can hit players in stride better than he is currently.

Was he not good in the run game? I thought they made a concerted effort to run to the right side when DJ got going, and I'm sure it wasn't because of Mahoney. I'm no film guru so maybe he did struggle. I agree he is a guard. If his struggles are against the pass, the coaches need to sit him down in the offseason if not sooner and let him know that even though he wants to be a tackle that's not his game. From my understanding his dream was to move to the money position at LT, but I don't see it without a redshirt season and a lifetime subscription to hot yoga. The left side is garbage in the run game, Boulware got beasted on more than one occasion. Not a good look.

Jahair Jones still has to make a lot of improvement to be an average run blocker. He's terrible when he pulls and never makes a block. When a guard pulls he has to go VERTICAL once he comes around the corner ( RT/LT corners. ).

it was my understanding he graded out the worst of all the starters last year. he did get beat a few times and it was disconcerting. He might be better as a guard.

What is it going to take for Searles to be held responsible for this abomination of an OL

Believe it or not. It's a GOOD OL' BOY system when it comes to head coaches and their assistants. Especially in the deep south conferences and Big 12 conference. That's why Searles is still hanging around and collecting a pay check.
