I remember Mack Brown use to have his whole class wrapped up by the summer and would have rarely any de-commits.... with Baez possibly getting Promoted to assistant director of football operations, this will help to keep em locked in.... especially them Gulliver boyz... Go Canes!!

We had 15 decommits from the previous recruiting class. That's a pretty drastic difference.

The only thing that will keep these kids locked in is if we unexpectedly win a f***ton of games, not Baez or anyone else getting promoted.

be real 11 of those decommits were from kids that were never supposed to be in that class to begin with. overall last year class sucked but there is a special bond between 16 kids. kids are now begging for offers to be apart of this. Golden sorrounded himself with a bunch of South Florida recruiting assassins and its paying off. Charlie strong just hired one of the most prolific Texas HS coaches on his staff because he knows texas to a tee and highly respected. its about relationships now.

Texas at the time was the only POWER at the time too in the long star state... Texas A&M and Baylor(RG3) were up and coming squads while the rest tech tcu north Texas smu were glad to get crumbs...

Oh yeah.... they also have the largest oil I mean duffle bags in the nation...

they laid the foundation for the SEC BIG10 to follow with their own network... what team... noticed I said TEAM.. had that to pitch to recruits.... i would stay too cause no matter where I go I'll be on TV and me and the rest of the fam will be caked up with shares of free oil I mean education

I agree.... as of now i only see 1 de-commit and thats Rasul.... he really dnt seem like he all about the U...

OP has a great point. Despite the 6-7 record, we're doing much better in getting early commits. I think the 2016 and 2017 kids believe they will make a difference regardless of who is the head coach, and they love everything the U offers, especially the opportunity to play before their friends and family. We'll see how many decommit, certainly some will regardless of record. But I think this thing holds together overall.

Chauncey Gardner and Dredrick Snelson already decommitted. Rasul will inevitably bolt as well at some point. The number of decommits will depend almost entirely on the season we have. Another season comparable to last year's and we all know what will happen.

Unlike last year's awful class, we've already gotten a bunch of verbals from premier talents. Every top program in the country will be looking to raid this class over the next 12 months. Winning is all that matters.

The Ice Baez Beard Effect is negligible at best and completely meaningless at worst under the current state of this program. Nothing but our record and possibly the progresssion of Kaaya will effect future recruiting classes. Everyone was moist with excitement when Ice was hired. We see how effective he is when you blow on the field. These guys are all difference makers in recruiting.,..when you actually have a respectable product.

The recruiting pitch is 6-7. Keep getting shallacked and all those kids are gone, or most. It means nothing.

Seriously? Al got wiped again this year, missing out of countless studs. The only sensible positive conclusion about 2016 is they are projecting who the new coach will be. If Al is still here, that class will dissolve too. Al is the same coach every day -- just like he preaches. Our curse is that he sucks the same every frigging day. As he says, "you are what you put on tape!" His coaching tape is horrible and getting worse each year.

Not if Al is still here. He will suck again; it can be not other way because the man cannot change. Al would lose with the 2001 team because it would have to play his way or it. That team was good enough to win without a HC but not WITH Al.

So what you are saying is Ice cant recruit unless the team is winning 10/11 games. I know the product sucks on the field, agree 100000%. But if you are a good/great recruiter you should be able to over come that. I mean not every team is winning 10/11 games

All I can say is that I hope you are wrong and that either Al wises up this year or the talent is strong enough to male him look smarter or he is replaced by a better coach or the class is still ready to come because they believe they can turn it around regardless. Lot off possible ways this works out well for us in the end.

Not exactly as I'm not sold on Ice as anything at this point but I would change your parameters. I think if we were a decent team with maybe 9 wins then the Ice Beard Baez Effect might break some recruiting battles in our favor. I totally agree that the guys that are held up in college football (which people predicted Ice would be) as recruiting masters can pull kids under any circumstances. I'd just be happy if these guys did the same if we ever get good, not even great, again.

Nothing recruits like winning. If we start winning a lot of games, the kids will want to be here even more than they do now.

The more interesting question is whether we fill Sun Life for average games if we're a top 10 team.
