Are things different ?

FWIW spent some time chatting with folks inside the program and others well connected to compare notes. There was a feeling going into this game that the guys on the team wanted to F*** USF up. Like a big brother just whipping on his lil bro. They felt physically superior and were not phased by the USF film.

On to Florida who Cristobal hates more than any other team… this is their Super Bowl, need to go belt to ***

I hesitated telling the board this, but here goes…

I had a vision last night that we played Ohio State for the championship later this year. I’ve been gradually feeling that feeling in the pit of my gut that I haven’t felt since 2001, and then I had that vision. Don’t know if it will happen or not, but time will tell.

I definitely have not had this with the Canes since 2001 though, and I have had these “visions” come true before. 😳😣😩
Had the same vision in the spring. Saw a vision of a segment where the announcers were talking about the Miami Gardens Ravens football team with JJ, JoJo, OJ, Chance, and Ryan Mack, and saying how those guys grew up playing together and now they are playing against each other for the National Championship.

Honestly if we really had an issue at EDGE, Toure or Wiley would probably just start sliding down to EDGE more tbh. Them holding up in the run game would be the question, but I think they'd be fine at EDGE in Pass Rush situations just fine.

The crazy thing is this WR group looks like the best WR group we have had in decades and it was the major worry going into the season.

Chase Smith is balling and if you would have told me he was going to have this many snaps this time of the year I would have been really really worried.

Chase looks better, Bain looks better, Mez looks better, OJ looks better, Wes looks better, Brown looks better, Fletcher looks better... there has been some serious development on this team.

The young talent is absolutely undeniable.

This roster is legit.

People doubting Mario now are just miserable fs.
Excellent post!

this is the first time in a while, I really feel like we can win a title.

it was evident against ND on the lines. we look like the old bama, UGA lines.

kudos to Mario for the portal acquisitions and love the added beck runs they incorporated last week.

CJ Daniels has been a beast and im loving it.

Chalk this up to Rat Poison, but heard on the SVP podcast yesterday:

Stanford Steve - "Miami is the best team in the country"

also has been said on Sirius XM college football show too.

us not jumping LSU is a joke. again, really wish ND would have held on to the win against ATM. them being 0-2 and virtually eliminated from the playoffs this early in the year sucks

I bet they get upset by UVA

also id have Mateer over TC and it isnt even really that close.

That game is a win/win for us.

Obviously we need to beat UiF. But if we do, next week either FSU loses to UVA, which would be hilarious, or they win and we have something like a #2 or 3 Miami vs a #5 or 6 FSU, which would be amazing for them to have all that hope and lofty ranking only to have us eat their faces in Doak.

UVA can score, though. And those weeknight games are weird.

They put up SEVEN HUNDRED yards of offense on William and Mary on Saturday. Yes, it's an FCS school. But 700 yards is insane. And William & Mary is usually a decent FCS team. I'll be very interested to see that FSU defense against them.

Extremely encouraged by this start.

- Tackling is better on defense.
- Communication on defense is light years better.
- Bain looks like a top 5 pick and we hit on Blay.
- Moten improved and has pushed Justin Scott to quality depth
- Keionte Scott is one of the top nickels in the country
- Tons of freshmen and 2nd year guys contributing
- Beck really good decision-making (for the most part)
- WRs are getting better each game.
- Kicking game is better than we thought (although hopefully we don't kick much this year)
- Samson has hit a breakthrough and is one of our top OL in pass pro
- Fletcher learning to run hard through contact
- Fast starts in general allowing our defense to be aggressive and our offense to settle in.

There’s so much more I can put in, but like Cribby said…these next two games will tell us a lot. Lose to UF or FSU, and it’s all for naught.

FSU is going to be a classic. Looking like it’s going to be a 3-4 pt spread. I want that gimmicky offense put in a blender, I want Castellanos to break in half.

But first, need to take care of a wounded, but dangerous UF team. They’ve only allowed 2 offensive touchdowns in three games, With Banks back at DT, they’re a good defense - undisciplined, but talented. Let’s get them reeling early and make Lagway chase…that’s when he gets into trouble. Pushing the ball downfield in a negative game script.
Just heard on Locked On Canes that Banks will be out and not playing Saturday night.

The last few years, I’ve become more pessimistic, and it’s been even longer since I allowed myself to have any delusional thoughts. But after yesterday, I feel a little delusion forming in the back of my brain — and I’m wondering if it’s warranted. I’m seeing a lot of things I haven’t seen in a very long time, so I’m going to point out a handful of things that look different.

1. Communication on both sides of the ball is phenomenal, especially compared to previous years. Last year’s defense was easily the worst combination of poor tackling, busted coverages, and lack of communication I’ve ever seen.

This season, the guys are lined up and talking pre-snap — and by the time the ball is snapped, everyone’s on the same page. That’s a big improvement over being misaligned and still communicating as the ball is snapped.

Heatherman has preached communication and simplifying things, and he’s been as close to perfect as you can ask for. Simply knowing your assignment and getting the play in quickly sets everything in motion — and he does that. Through three games, he deserves an A.

2. Complimentary football and all three phases working together.
Aside from the hold against ND, special teams and coverage have been drastically better. Marion brings a dimension we haven’t had in a while, in addition to being a solid gimmick guy and improved WR.

It’s nice not having to see one phase carry the other two — or constantly needing one unit to play a perfect game to have a shot. Most good teams have this balance, and we finally do too.

3. Leadership, chemistry, and full buy-in.
Unlike past years, there are multiple older guys on both sides of the ball who are also high-character individuals — not just a few scattered here and there.

It feels like this team really cares and wants to be great. It’s easily the most bought-in group since maybe 2017. Most of the guys genuinely seem happy for each other’s success.

Going back a few years, it seemed like guys cared more about the perks of playing at UM than actually winning. After games, it felt like a race to see who could get out of the locker room first to go party.

4. Quality coordinators on both sides of the ball.
This is a major reason we’re finally playing complimentary football. Heatherman has already gotten his flowers in this thread, and Dawson continues to improve year after year.

Both coaches are excellent at simplifying things while still having the ability to out-scheme opponents. Mario has finally built a complete, high-quality staff.

5. A real jolt of energy from the young guys.
This is the first time in forever that we’ve had this many young players logging key snaps — and mature enough to handle it. Toney, Moore, Fitzgerald, and one who hasn’t played much but was an absolute steal: Mr. Antione.

The speed with which he’s come back from a major injury is incredible — and he looks like a prototype future lockdown guy.

Blount is technically a freshman since he reclassified, so I’d throw him in this group too. Lowe would’ve been another big one. That was a huge loss.

6. Physicality at the line of scrimmage and a culture shift.
The team culture and physicality at the LOS have made Miami a bully again. Mario has completely changed the mindset, and the players have taken on his personality.

They’re ready to scrap it out in the parking lot and are fine with bloodying their noses. At one point, I thought that identity was gone forever — but being tough and physical is now the brand again.

So I guess what I’m saying is... I’m starting to feel like I’m setting myself up to be hurt again, lol. But something feels different this time compared to past years.

The next step is to keep the focus and be ready to take everyone’s best shot. I now expect to beat UF and ND — but it’s those random 12 p.m. road games against mediocre teams that still worry me. That’ll be the dragon that needs slayed.

Do you still feel this way or is this just the same rerun of years past? Will we respond or will we flop against a team like SMU or Pitt?

1- communication is still a struggle as there was 4 interceptions and we allowed 14 points and nonone seemed to know WTF to do

2-???? Did you watch the game?

3-maybe

4- quality coordinators, OC poor and DC only 2nd half so. NO!

5-ok

6- Offensive line has been man handled for the last 2 games

7- these are my own comments and not ChatGPT inspired

8- Mario still sucks
