Are things different ?

There is so much “good” but it is just week three and plenty of unique challenges ahead. But like you said the physicality. On offense you could see our OL doing as they pleased, keeping Beck upright. By the middle of the 3rd they wanted no part of tackling Fletcher.

On defense yes we swarm and miss very few tackles. But we are running through guys in most cases. As long as we don’t dig ourselves a hole 4th quarters should be ours to finish the job.

The crazy thing is this WR group looks like the best WR group we have had in decades and it was the major worry going into the season.

Chase Smith is balling and if you would have told me he was going to have this many snaps this time of the year I would have been really really worried.

Chase looks better, Bain looks better, Mez looks better, OJ looks better, Wes looks better, Brown looks better, Fletcher looks better... there has been some serious development on this team.

The young talent is absolutely undeniable.

This roster is legit.

People doubting Mario now are just miserable fs.

The cohesiveness on defense is light years better than last year. Probably the most impressive part of the team. The new DC is earning his pay.

The other thing that strikes me about this team is that the kids appear to really be team guys - even the portals. Team guys that have embraced being at Miami. That’a a testament to Mario and to how they evaluate players.

But yeah, fsu will tell us a lot.

Florida and FSU will tell alot . Just another step. I’m intrigued to see how they handle success.

100. Florida is in shambles but they have talent. Can Miami stay focused and come out with a killer mentality? Miami hasn’t played from behind all year. What happens if Florida jumps on the early?

FSU has talent and very challenging scheme. 1st big game on the road. Hard to even talk this game until we see what happens with Florida.

• I’d like to see Pringle get some snaps with the 1s

Fletcher was awesome yesterday and Brown is solid but Pringle has got that extra giddy up. I know there’s more to it playing RB in this offense but the kid looks good

• We talked about this but Toure off the edge is a grown man

• I remember seeing Xavier Lucas once yesterday. He’s been a ghost this season in the best way

• Daniels/Toney/Moore combo has been amazing

• Mesidor has been as unstoppable as Bain (maybe even moreso 👀)

• I love Heatherman (some homo)

This team just feels very mature even though a lot of young talent is playing significant snaps and critical roles. We've felt like a semi professional team through 3 weeks. I know someone already said it but the fact we look so good while getting nothing from Trader, Lofton, and Lyle is insane. Those 3 (Traded less so) were probably the most hyped all off season and I'm sure for good reason but still crazy.

We've got some big tests coming up but Miami has aced every test so far. LFG Canes.

The last few years, I’ve become more pessimistic, and it’s been even longer since I allowed myself to have any delusional thoughts. But after yesterday, I feel a little delusion forming in the back of my brain — and I’m wondering if it’s warranted. I’m seeing a lot of things I haven’t seen in a very long time, so I’m going to point out a handful of things that look different.

1. Communication on both sides of the ball is phenomenal, especially compared to previous years. Last year’s defense was easily the worst combination of poor tackling, busted coverages, and lack of communication I’ve ever seen.

This season, the guys are lined up and talking pre-snap — and by the time the ball is snapped, everyone’s on the same page. That’s a big improvement over being misaligned and still communicating as the ball is snapped.

Heatherman has preached communication and simplifying things, and he’s been as close to perfect as you can ask for. Simply knowing your assignment and getting the play in quickly sets everything in motion — and he does that. Through three games, he deserves an A.

2. Complimentary football and all three phases working together.
Aside from the hold against ND, special teams and coverage have been drastically better. Marion brings a dimension we haven’t had in a while, in addition to being a solid gimmick guy and improved WR.

It’s nice not having to see one phase carry the other two — or constantly needing one unit to play a perfect game to have a shot. Most good teams have this balance, and we finally do too.

3. Leadership, chemistry, and full buy-in.
Unlike past years, there are multiple older guys on both sides of the ball who are also high-character individuals — not just a few scattered here and there.

It feels like this team really cares and wants to be great. It’s easily the most bought-in group since maybe 2017. Most of the guys genuinely seem happy for each other’s success.

Going back a few years, it seemed like guys cared more about the perks of playing at UM than actually winning. After games, it felt like a race to see who could get out of the locker room first to go party.

4. Quality coordinators on both sides of the ball.
This is a major reason we’re finally playing complimentary football. Heatherman has already gotten his flowers in this thread, and Dawson continues to improve year after year.

Both coaches are excellent at simplifying things while still having the ability to out-scheme opponents. Mario has finally built a complete, high-quality staff.

5. A real jolt of energy from the young guys.
This is the first time in forever that we’ve had this many young players logging key snaps — and mature enough to handle it. Toney, Moore, Fitzgerald, and one who hasn’t played much but was an absolute steal: Mr. Antione.

The speed with which he’s come back from a major injury is incredible — and he looks like a prototype future lockdown guy.

Blount is technically a freshman since he reclassified, so I’d throw him in this group too. Lowe would’ve been another big one. That was a huge loss.

6. Physicality at the line of scrimmage and a culture shift.
The team culture and physicality at the LOS have made Miami a bully again. Mario has completely changed the mindset, and the players have taken on his personality.

They’re ready to scrap it out in the parking lot and are fine with bloodying their noses. At one point, I thought that identity was gone forever — but being tough and physical is now the brand again.

So I guess what I’m saying is... I’m starting to feel like I’m setting myself up to be hurt again, lol. But something feels different this time compared to past years.

The next step is to keep the focus and be ready to take everyone’s best shot. I now expect to beat UF and ND — but it’s those random 12 p.m. road games against mediocre teams that still worry me. That’ll be the dragon that needs slayed.
Yesterday felt different because I expected us to just coast to the victory only to finally curby a team in that situation.

I think there are tons of reasons to be optimistic. I thought we were a 10 or 11 win team this year but we have had some pleasent surprises I didn’t expect. The WRs look better than expected with Toney being an outright star, and our DTs thus have looked the part. If we whip UF’s OL like I expect that would be two top OLs we simply dismantled.

The other thing that is making me optimistic is that as I look around the country, I don’t see one team that scares me like years past. I’m not saying we beat anyone but there isn’t a team where I would sit there and think - we don’t belong on the field with them.

Now to the the reason why I think I still should be cautious is that while I truly believe we are better than we were in 23 and 24, both those seasons started the same way in September. It’s a bit early but those early receipts are hard to ignore.

Lastly, credit to Mario and the staff on continuously getting better in the portal, to the point where this year’s haul is flashing all game every game. We have come a long long way from that first 22 portal disaster.

Brown does not look better. Got beat multiple times already and had a dumbass penalty.

Thought D$ and others were crazy and blowing a little bit of smoke when they said this team might be better than last year. I’m completely sold and agree.

We just seem to have the right guys at every position and the guys behind them. This is the best overall roster that I can remember seeing here in forever.

Mario brought in the prefect fits in the portal and freshman that fit perfectly what he’s trying to build.

We legit have a top 5 team in the country and I can finally say that confidently without being a homer.

I think we have a legit shot at #6 this year.

Pringle would add a nice dynamic . Lyle being out has taken some explosion away from running game

Last year had an elite offense and garbage defense. It really wasn’t hard to envision things getting better . I expected a tad drop off on O but a huge jumo by D. That recipe should make us better.

Ask this at 11pm Saturday Sept 20

The Florida game will be the test. They arent a bad team nor a team Miami will beat easily. They are just poorly coached

Lagway can play, hes not the hype everyone has made him, but he can play. They have players and their D might be good

Miami will have to play clean, no mistakes, and Dawson and Mario cannot coach this one tentative

1 No more keystone kops firedrills. Great to see, especially on defense, night and day from years past.
2 Agreed. Solid in all phases. We ‘re gonna get one on punt returns, 10 just missed last night
3 Cant win without this, and it sure looks like it’s going in the right direction.
4 Praise the Lord, and pass the peas… hallelujah.
5 I’m still in the “who’s that guy” phase with this team. Happened when #17 caught the ball and was running free across the field last night. Competition breeds success, right?
6 People bust on Mario for the T&P stuff, but, football is a collision sport and through three games the collisions are all taking place on the opponents side of the LOS. It wins games. Ask the Iggles.

To paraphrase Hunter S.Thompson, I bought the ticket, I’m taking the ride.

I’d take a team with a very good offense and defense over a team with a generational offense and crappy defense any day of the week.

We had a couple hiccups on defense with getting aligned but honestly to me Golesh seemed so desperate to make something happen that he cared more about getting us a penalty or catching us off guard than making an actual play

And for the first time in a long while, I see Mario jawing at the refs on the sidelines instead of having that "what just happened, bubba" look.
He seemed completely dialed into what was going on ...
