This is Applewhite away from Saban and Herman. Mack Brown's final year. Applewhite's only year calling plays at Texas. He was a co-coordinator but was the playcaller. No idea how much influence and Brown and the Co-Oc had on the offense. His starter got hurt in the K-State game. That was game 4 of the season

That’s years ago. People are allowed to evolve and change.

I'm not trying to downgrade him. People have been talking about he was only running Herman's offense at UH. This was him without an "offensive guru" as the HC. People can determine what they like and don't like. It also might show the type of stuff he could call in the passing game when he doesn't have a WR playing QB for him like he had in Greg Ward. How he generates yards in the run game without Ward as well.

I don't get and I understand herman hc but why is it when Applewhite teams is top 20 in a lot of categories 5th in scoring its kendall briles as he was oc with an offensive hc but when Applewhite was oc under offensive hc it was all herman so Applewhite gets credit 0 times how is that possible

Because this is CIS.
look all I can do is judge a guy on how they did recently when an oc and hc and the stats say he was very good. I know it is cis. I should of learned from diaz debate when only wanted to talk about failure at texas and not how well his d did at 2 stints at miss state with 3 stars vs 5 stars. but I just don't seem to learn

I like that he diversifies the run blocking. You see zone, outside zone, power, gap, and man. Not a lot of offenses reverse themselves like that. I'm also reminded how horrible chase McCoy was, jesus christ I cant believe he was a starter at texas.

Be careful while you're dissing Applewhite because Diaz defense at Texas that same year got his *** fired too!

Could it be that Texas was such a train wreck that manny failed, the OC failed, and the HC was eventually fired?

Sounds like the failure was Mack Browns and that’s why he’s been out of coaching for five years

Manny gave up 500+ rushing yards to BYU.....thats what got him fired

Everybody failed at Texas. Offense. Defense. The whole program. You know what that usually points to? The head coach. That’s why he was fired and out of coaching for 5 years. He may have been the first championship coach that couldn’t get a job since Larry Coker

And the fact that he wasnt looking for another job has nothing to do with it.....

Can’t say what it was. I can say Mack Brown turned Texas into such a train wreck they’re still trying to fix it. The school with the most resources in the nation was passed by just about every other school in Texas the last decade.

But nah, that was on Mack. It was his two coordinators that have since done well elsewhere

Honestly I’m still confused why we haven’t given Matt Canada an interview I could be completely wrong

This is very easy actually. What offensive scheme does Applewhite run? Exactly

We KNOW that Herman is an Urban Meyer disciple and runs a slight variation of his offense. Urban is a mastermind and Herman tweaked his playbook and is elite at developing a dangerous option QB. Ohio State won the natty with a 3rd string QB with Herman being the OC, after Herman left, OSU QB play and offensive efficiency took a dip for 2 years until Urban hired Kevin Wilson. Houston's offense looked like a OSU with some tweaks when he got there, and his option QB magic worked again, and is now working at Texas. We KNOW that where ever Herman goes, he'll find or teach someone to be a very annoying option QB.

Same for Briles, everywhere he goes, the offense is humming, and we KNOW what offense he ran. He ran his father's offense. We saw that offense get placed at Houston succeed.

Applewhite? He's had an elite offensive coach on staff with him at every stop. Just don't know what to expect from his offense. His Alabama offense, while coaching a Nick Saban squad, put up 14 points against Louisiana Monroe. His Texas offense, while coaching under Mack Brown, put up 5 points against an 8 win Missouri squad. Is he a run-spread coach? Will he run the strength of his players offense? Can he at least recruit? Tons of question marks for this man.

2017 at Houston tells the story. No super elite coach to fall back on. How'd he do?

Houston's offense was 70th in points per game AGAINST NON-P5 SCHOOLS, and 53rd in YPP against NON P-5 schools.
They were 51st in scoring "against conference only" opponents.

The best thing I can find about that 2017 season is that they were 26th in YPP against conference only opponents.
