APP STATE

Don’t try and hedge now. Keep that same energy you had on page 1 where you were saying it will be a close game.

I remember the hype in 2016. Most of the app State fans expected to win. I even remember gameday playing clips of the Michigan vs. App state upset trying to elude that we were next.
I consider 2 tds a close game with the talent discrepancy and this is not 2016 and this game is not hyped up like that. I was not one that thought App was going to win that game but I did think It was going to be closer. Miami could very well win by 40 but App is capable of making it competitive. It only helps Miami at the end of the year to have a win over a solid team I just don’t know why everyone on here is acting like App is still in the socon

I answered your question and I am a Miami fan, this is a thread about App state, I’m an alum and have gone to nearly every game since 2010 so I have some insight and not just watched the ecu game. I don’t know why saying Miami winning by 2 tds is so offensive
It’s not offensive. As a poster said when we made excuses when we beat FIU in the Richt era that now we know it’s a sign our team that year was mediocre.

I expect a blowout…frankly worse than 2016. Now a blowout doesn’t mean we are a great team this year but if it is a dogfight at the start of the 4th quarter in all likelihood we are in for a long year as Cane fans.

Manny has put himself in a no win situation this Saturday because of the poor performance against bama.

Fans are tired of dogfights with lesser talented teams especially since one of manny’s excuses is the talent disparity bama had over us especially on the lines.

That would me first question if I was a reporter on Saturday night if Miami wins only by 14.

“Manny you stated last week about bama’s enormous talent gap especially on the lines well app State has only 1 four star compared to well over 30 for you yet you only won by 14. How do you explain such a close game when arguably you have more talent over app state than what bama had on you?”

Players are beat to **** both physically and mentally. I can’t imagine them coming out fired up for this game. I hope I’m wrong. Maybe things will be different later in the week.

That would be great and show some growth. Under this HC, unless we are playing Bethune, we haven't blown out anyone coming off a loss and have tended to let the prior loss weigh us down some early.

That said, I still expect us to win by 2-3 scores. The 7 point spread is an overreaction to our loss, but I would be a bit surprised to see us really go off and put up 48+ points. Hope you are right.
Jesus! Ur right about this coach coming off a loss! Did I get ahead of myself 🤦🏾‍♂️

"... Manny has put himself in a no win situation this Saturday because of the poor performance against [INSERT LOSS AGAIN AND AGAIN HERE]..."
Kind of a trend. Year 1, Year 2, Year 3...

CIS goes Chernobyl if App State takes first drive lead or is "in it" by end of 1Q.

Lord help the internet if competitve tilt in 4Q👇

App is the best team in the worst FBS conference so make of that what you will. Not all G5 conferences are created equal so the “they’re a solid g5 program” line is subjective. They’re not UCF, Cincinnati or Boise. They’re likely worse than the UAB team we played last year. They’re not FCS so Miami won’t be able to sleep walk and still win big. We’ll see exactly the type of team we have. If they come out fired up and playing hard, this game is a blowout. If they’re lackadaisical and still worried about Alabama it’ll be tighter.

The point spread is a 100% reaction to last week’s game. The nation saw Bama kill Miami and still thinks “isn’t App State that school that beat Michigan that one time?” We had a similar theme last year when Miami opened up as a 10 point favorite against a much better Pitt team after getting smoked by Clemson the week prior. The line eventually made it’s way up to 13 by game time and Miami still covered. I expect the line for this game to work it’s way into double digits and Miami covers easily.

If the Hurricanes play like crap, I’ll officially give up on anything worthwhile happening this year.

Didn't people say we would lose to them when we went up there? The environment biggest game ever for them etc...

App State is a well-coached team that will play pretty disciplined football (at least one offense). Peoples is a solid RB with power who lacks speed and elite traits. Their OL isn't full of special dudes, but they execute their zone blocking scheme pretty well. And Chase Brice looked pretty solid at QB against ECU.

But that defense is subpar and small. I'm expecting this to be more of a 33-17 type of game.
Don is going to have a Big Game IMO.

App State has won their last 2 games vs Power 5 (UNC, S Carolina) and their most recent Power 5 loss was in OT at Penn St. They'll be ready to play.
This is what they said about App ST the last time we played them.

What to Know About Appalachian State 2016

Head coach Scott Satterfield, who is a former Mountaineers signal-caller, runs a spread offense directed by junior quarterback Taylor Lamb. Joining him in the backfield is running back Marcus Cox, who entered the new campaign with 4,088 career rushing yards and 43 touchdowns. And he’s a real threat out of the backfield as a receiver as well. He has 248 yards and three scores on the ground in ’16, and keep in mind that he found running room last year against a great Clemson defense (25 rushes for 103 yards). This offensive line will give the Miami front all it can handle.

Offense: Even. While the Hurricanes have the better athletes and more firepower, that ground-based Appalachian State attack is a joy to watch when it is clicking on all cylinders.

Defense: Even. The ‘Canes have switched to a 4-3 scheme under new coordinator Manny Diaz, and he is looking to mold a more explosive unit.

Special Teams: Even. Miami missed a field goal for the second straight week, and the ‘Canes were also called for a roughing the punter. However, the ‘Neers missed an extra point and a 42-yard field goal against Tennessee.

Coaching: Even. Richt is one of the best coaches in the nation, but Satterfield deserves a ton of recognition for what he has put together with the ‘Neers.

Intangibles: Appalachian State. Playing in front of a rowdy crowd will provide a tough environment for the ‘Canes.

I think we know how this game turned out.

As stated by many of you already, if we come out flat and lackadaisical after last week’s debacle, then we know all we need to about this staff. To me, this game is a perfect teaching moment on culture and playing up to performance standards and never your opponent (since that changes every week but never do our standards). I am cautiously optimistic that Miami comes out with a chip on its shoulder this weekend and hopefully gains some momentum heading into even more meaningful games.
