This is a ****** game. By the way we are still scheduled to play AT Arkansas St and VS Toldedo in 2017! Then AT Toledo in 2018 while we have the LSU Neutral site game scheduled.
Without a doubt Blake James ****ed up the schedule. At least he's managed to get us some good games each season still with ND in 2016/2017, LSU in 2018, UF and Rutgers in 2019, MSU in 2020/2021. I just don't get how the same dude that got us MSU and LSU got us traveling to Toldeo, Arkansas St, and App St.

Well, out of those three places, Boone is the heavyweight champ with the others being flyweights if you're talking about locations. I lived in Banner Elk and used to spend a few weeks on Beech (the stilt houses at the top you can see driving up) when we moved back to FL. My mother eventually moved to Blowing Rock, although closer to Boone up in the Sorrento Skies area some years later. She's now in Wake Forest, which is a great little town....but I miss my visits to the area.
I wouldn't call this a ****** game by any stretch of the imagination. I've been to some ASU games and while small, the altitude makes the sound travel extremely well.
Add to that, sometimes games are more than just a game. It's about the entire experience itself. The town of Boone is as far from SO BE as it gets, but that's part of the charm. The people are down to earth, welcoming as ****, and you're really doing yourself a disservice if you just plan on breezing in and out for the game. The place is a destination for those who like the outdoors and as a very well traveled person, it's a place worth experiencing. To top it off, 80 degrees is a hot day there in the summer. 75 or so is typical with nights dropping into the 50's. During the summer months, the place is probably two-thirds Floridians.
Definitely 12 Bones for bbq. Juicy Lucy's for burgers.
Downside is that 12 Bones is only open for lunch.

I know they're different, but if you had to choose between the two where are you going? I'm probably going to head back there in a weekend or two to eat at JL's again(though I may try out 12 Bones instead) and then check out the stadium and get familiar with the location.
Remember, Asheville is nearly two hours from Boone. It's a nice drive and one I make fairly often. I prefer Juicy Lucy's - more inside space, served rather than self serve (stand up counter order / pick up at 12 Bones).
If you're just looking to check out Boone, I recommend going straight to Boone and trying Cafe Portofino or Appalachian Mountain Brewery.

Boone is an hour to an hour and a half for me, but I was planning on going to both one Saturday to kill some time. Both it and Asheville are about the same distance from me.
I go there for vacation to hike in the mountains and relax. Beautiful setting but not too far away.
Just wanted to let everyone know since this seems to be the most active thread. Tailgating at App is really strange when it comes to rules. Having went to App State and NC state, I'm assuming Miami is a lot like NC State in regards to tailgating so I don't want any of you guys to get a ticket on what's supposed to be a fun day.
1) Absolutely DO NOT cross the street with any alcohol. Cops will get on you quick.
2) DO NOT drink liquor (visibly anyway). Again, prohibited.
3) They take underage drinking EXTREMELY seriously, and will walk up to you randomly to ask for ID if you look even remotely underage.
4) Drinking games are not allowed as well as "accelerated drinking devices".
Tips: Make non-drinking games drinking games if that's your thing, such as cornhole or drinking every time you see a beard.
That's all I can think of right now, and make sure you avoid the "designated alcohol free zones." They're fairly well marked, and I don't know how much they exist now as that started the year I graduated, but just a heads up.
