Anyone see some karma heading fsu's way?

I’m in the insurance biz and we saw this coming 2 weeks ago.
Weatherbell is a good site for accurate weather analytics.

I’m on my way to Bham for staging to assist with the recovery.
This is a lot worse than people think, nothing like Florence, this is a massive wind event.

God all mighty, the storm now has a pressure of 919 mbars. and 150 mph. Pray for these folks. Andrew had 922 and look what it did.
Andrew was stronger st 165, although that’s from examination of the damage. All measuring instruments were destroyed in south dade

Stastically speaking September 10 is the peak of the season. It then starts to drop off but then the first week of October we have another mini surge in activity. August through mid October is also the period of most intense hurricanes.

Is your home a newer home? Having said that I don't think that area is high wind velocity zone like South Florida. Structures after Hurricane Andrew have to withstand Cat 5 winds down here.

Only Miami Dade and Broward are considered High Velocity Hurricane Zones (HVHZ) according to the Florida building code.

yep, looks like the eye is going right over my house. Sent the wife and kids out of town.

im about 5 miles from the coast and about 1/4 mile from the bay. I got the wife and kids out yesterday, but I stuck around to start clean up and helping my neighbors once it passed. When I made my decision it was only going to be a strong 2 maybe 3, but it has hit a 4 now. Thinking my decision has comeback to bite me in the ***. Lived here in Panama City Beach my whole life, but I’m thinking this is going to be like nothing we ever seen before. Never been really nervous about these, but this ones got me a bit shaken. Praying for a good outcome.

Godspeed

50-years Cane fan and family here live 75 miles east of where it hit, 8 miles from the Gulf. We got real lucky (not as bad as Irma) since it compacted and stayed west. Still have 30mph wind gusts in 40s. Seems it was the third strongest (wind/pressure) storm to ever hit US mainland. God's best to all Canes fans (or humanoles) facing the direct consequences.

Oh yes now that Michael has hit, Andrew was stronger. I believe Andrew wasn't measured accurately period... that's why a Japanese engineer produced a wind speed study based on physical damage assessments... and it showed higher winds in South Dade than 165 mph. One of my jobs after Andrew was to assess the communications infrastructure in S. Dade. Structural damage was like an atom bomb exploded.

They weren't prepared for this.
Prayers to all affected.

This is pretty bad, lots of people with family and friends in this area and are getting destroyed from this storm. Bad taste and timing

oh yeah like I knew it was gonna turn into another andrew at the time..

like I said, I said on page one to LOCK THE THREAD but no

i've been through 7-8 of these things and cat 2's and low 3's are where hurricane parties originate

not a single one of you seen this thing turning into andrew, but go ahead and downvote away like I was wishing Armageddon on the normal average citizens

The guy that created the tornado scale was the first to say that we were underestimating the storm’s strength based on the damage. I can’t remember his name right now. Andrew was believed to have had 145mph winds beat that’s when the weather instruments failed and that was generally 15 minutes before the worst condition. In 2005 a new paper was published where it was upgraded to cat 5 with 165 mph and even that might be conservative.

Yes I saw the report from the Japanese engineer when it went public but I can't find it online. In 2004 a reanalysis of Andrew which you speak about was published and authored by Dr. Landsea and NOAA/AOML Hurricane Research.
One of the most bizarre things I saw from Andrew in Homestead was a metal galvanized garbage can lid that was perfectly lodged into a coconut palm, half of it imbedded into the tree trunk.

Dr. Landsea. What a great name for a Hurricane doctor.
