I stand corrected. We have 7 guys who've donated.
We've got $116M worth of players in the NFL this season and we're begging for change. That's crazy to me.
If you’re intimating that the ex-players who’ve gone on to the NFL are responsible for building the athletic amenities at the University of Miami then maybe the fans/alumni/university doesn’t deserve an elite football team.
99.999% of donations that built indoor facilities throughout the SEC, B1G and Big 12 were built with non-NFL money. In fact, Miami players have given in numbers that probably best any school in the nation. ANY! ****, Richt is responsible for 1/32nd of the IPF! Penn State is about to build an entirely new football stadium (yes, Beaver Stadium is history) and they’re not expecting the lion share from ex-NFLers. TxA&M and Baylor built new stadiums; they didn’t rely on ex-NFLers. No, my friend, to support a university, the fans and boosters have to step up. Merchandise and ticket sales alone will never get it done. You have to write a personal check.
I mentioned this in another thread, but hats off to Clemson and their IPTAY (I Pay Ten A Year) fundraising that began 80 years ago. They convinced plainsfolk who supported Clemson athletics to give $10/yr (it’s now more) because they lost a game. And they’ve been using it ever since to have some of the best facilities there are. This idea that the players are responsible is somewhat selfish from where I sit. There may be $116M of player money available, but what about the possible $10B+ of non-NFL alumni money?
Open up, big boy! Write that check. Even if it’s $1,000 (extra; I’m guessing you give already), you’ll feel better.
