Had no idea he went to Norland. how on earth does a guy that talented go so under the radar in high school? Don't even remember hearing about his recruitment

He failed to qualify at Alcorn St. and ended up at a prep school in North Carolina. From there he went to Central Michigan.

I guarantee no one on any Miami site was talking about this kid when he was in HS.

Never even heard the name until he turned Dan Lefevour into a Heisman Candidate for a minute.

I know a guy who went to high school with Isaac Bruce and he told me that Isaac Bruce was a third string TE in HS and that his own HS coach overlooked him. This isn't all that uncommon.

This happens and will continue to happen. A player, who not many know or recruit, will go on to do big things like A. Brown. This is why some people prefer to take chances on lesser known players in SF rather than go OOS.

Good guy and great talent, but academics were an issue. He spent a year at NC Tech Prep Christian Academy (that covers it all) in Charlotte - very suspect place that has since closed its doors.

There are late bloomers in all the major sports. I think Butch's greatest talent was being able to identify a few characteristics of late bloomers and attributes of guys who could translate their projected skill sets to other positions.

This is why recruiting should always go beyond the Sparq numbers and involve things like:

- collection of information on family life and reasons for why a player is where he is (background)
- WINGSPAN or arm length (I still can't believe this isn't a consistent measure in all camps)
- a standard way of assessing personality/drive (attitude)

My friends call me the wingspan guy because I always talk about how important it is.

Speaking of the background and projecting talent I remember hearing that Butch would find out what the kids were eating to get a gauge on how maxed out there were physically.

He also would only look south for defensive ends while at North Carolina because he thought going north those body types preferred basketball.

His strategy beat the **** out of Coker sifting through Rivals databases.

My friends call me the flexible Achilles guy because I always talk about how important it is.

His dad is head coach at Miami Northwestern now too. Played on the same Pop Warner team as Streeter and TY Hilton. Must have been a matchup nightmare for the DC's in that league.

So the top two receivers in terms of yardage this season were both under the radar Miami kids.

should be a Phin, played in our backyard and Ireland passes on him... Instead Ireland drafts a bust like T.E. Michael Egnew 14 spots ahead of
T.Y. Hilton... Sorry but it hit a nerve

Well, T.Y. Hilton played in Miami, too. It happens.
